  13. GC 2009: Activision Dates DJ Hero Fans looking to try out their mixing skills on DJ Hero now have day to finally look forward to. Activision has confirmed the official release date, telling Joystiq at Gamescom the game will be available in North America on October 27. The game will ship to other territories in "late October," which we assume will only be a few days later. The publisher was still unable to confirm the $120 standard and $200 "Renegade" edition price tags appearing on retail websites such as Gamestop. For the latest impressions, be sure to check out IGN's hands-on with the game. Konami Reveals New 360-Degree Control System and More Key Gameplay Advances for Pro Evolution Soccer Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. has announced that Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 (PES 2010) will benefit from 360-degree control, further elevating the unrivalled realism of the title. The announcement comes following Konami's close contact with the global network of PES and soccer fans, who have played a key role in the development of the new game. Via forums and feedback, the PES Productions team in Tokyo has canvassed opinion on elements fans hoped to see included in PES 2010, and 360-degree control was part of the long list. 360-degree control will be available on the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system via the analogue sticks on the respective controllers. The system will allow players to spread the ball with ease, opening up new attack and defense opportunities. PLAYSTATION 3 owners will also benefit when using the Dual Shock's D-Pad, though the Xbox 360 is limited to eight-directional control due to technical limitations of the hardware. Konami has also confirmed a number of similarly crowd-pleasing elements as requested by the fan base, including: * Manual Goalkeepers: PES 2010 will be the only soccer title to offer users complete control of the keeper. Players can switch to their goalkeeper at any time, and defend their goal as they see fit without relying on AI. * New Goalkeeper Moves: Players can now perform quick under-arm throws to their nearest defender to get attacks rolling more quickly. * All-New Animation: Key animation related to dribbling, running, turning, etc, has been reworked and enhanced, creating a more natural and organic feel to the way players chase down balls, sprint downfield, change direction and move around the pitch. The result is a more fluid and natural look to the game.ãâ¬â¬ * Fine-tuned Close Control: The PES Productions team has worked to improve trapping of the ball and basic close control elements, giving the user more ways to spread and move the ball around effortlessly and more accurately. * Manual Ball Request: The ability to demand the ball when running into space is now available to the player, and will be accessible in all game modes, such as multi-player, online, etc. * Simpler Skills: Moves such as feints, drag backs and upper body feints can be applied more naturally when taking on or trying to beat an opponent. The PES series has long been associated with clever flicks and tricks, and PES 2010 will boast the most to date. Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 is scheduled to be released in Fall 2009 on the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system, PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system, and PSP (PlayStation Portable) system. GC 2009: Crytek Announcement August 20, 2009 - At EA's press conference on Tuesday, the head of EA in Europe paused in the midst of his long succession of demos to introduce the team from Crytek, explaining that they were going to be making an announcement on Thursday. With speculation about the sequel and the Bundestadt's possible ban on developers of violent video games running high, we were expecting Crytek to deliver some big news. And instead, they revealed a sculpt of the nanosuit from the upcoming game. Don't get us wrong; it's a nice suit, but, well, it's just a nice suit. The announcement began as a sort of ersatz military contractor presentation. Stylish logos and a nice script reminded us how Crynet Systems had changed the face of war in 2020 by unleashing the ultimate weapon, man. Blurring the line between science-fiction and reality, soldiers armed in nanosuits could "adapt, engage and survive" using technology that was "generations ahead of its time." Cevat was even on hand to show off a life-size mockup of the suit and distribute some brochures that outlined the suit's abilities. You can check out the full presentation and get all the suit's specs at crynetsystems.com. Video for Crysis 2 Trialer GC 2009: Dark Void Given Release Date August 19, 2009 - Capcom will be releasing Dark Void in North American on January 12, 2010. It will ship in Europe three days later, the company announced today. The game was originally planned to ship in September of 2009, but Capcom delayed the title to "avoid competition with releases of major titles of other companies." This also allowed the team to add some extra polish. Be sure to check out IGN's hands-on with the game from this past E3. Dark Void is being released for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC platforms. GC 2009: Heavenly Sword Dev Working on Multiplatform Title August 19, 2009 - Ninja Theory, the developer behind the graphically-impressive action title Heavenly Sword for PlayStation 3, announced a partnership with Namco Bandai on a new, multiplatform title. "Ninja Theory's first title exemplified their incredible talent and ability to deliver a high-quality, cinematic and captivating gameplay experience," said Makoto Iwai, executive vice president and chief operating officer at NAMCO BANDAI Games America Inc. "With producers from our North American office working closely with such a strong European development studio, we will be able to create a blockbuster title with strong pan-Western sensibilities and appeal for a global gaming audience." The game will be released on Xbox 360 and PlayStation and is planned for release in 2010. "This new project pushes our core strengths of rich story-telling, cutting-edge technology and exciting gameplay beyond anything we have created before," said Nina Kristensen, co-founder and chief development ninja, Ninja Theory Ltd. "The support of NAMCO BANDAI combined with the skills and talent we have nurtured over the years means that players are going to be in for a truly deep and memorable experience." Expect to hear more news about this during the coming months. GC 2009: Clash of the Titans Revealed Fantasy movie tie-in readying for 2010. t its Gamescom 2009 press briefing, Bandai Namco gave its long-rumoured, forthcoming Clash of the Titans game its first airing. It's schedule for release alongside the Warner Bros. remake of the fantasy movie classic on Xbox 360 and PS3 early next year. Developed by Japanese company Game Republic, Clash of the Titans is an action game with a focus on some serious hack-based gameplay. We were treated to a brief trailer giving a taste of the game which the company said would follow the story of the movie, while expanding the universe for play purposes. It's video teaser showed off some of Clash of the Titans' enormous locations ââ¬â ranging from ancient Greek monuments to jagged, snow-covered wastelands and lava-drenched caverns. We also got a good look at some of the game's enemies, of which Game Republic claims will number over 100, loosely culled from classic Greek mythology. Alongside a couple of centaurs and a very angry looking minotaur, we also spotted wraiths, dragons and a giant-sized, club-wielding ogre. Needless to say, it's all very reminiscent of God of War, although Bandai Namco is currently keeping the lead character under wraps so as not to spoil the movie. We'll find out if we're looking at another cross bald chap when more is unveiled shortly. GC 2009: Kojima Reveals New Titles Metal Gear creator hints at life after Snake and Peace Walker for 360 & PS3. Hideo Kojima has revealed he's at work on three new games, and discussed the possibility of bringing the world of Peace Walker to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Talking to IGN at Gamescom 2009, Kojima spoke of the forthcoming PSP game Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker as a stopgap while his team worked on an engine to power their next flurry of games ââ¬â of which Metal Gear Solid Rising will be the first. Three other titles are being developed alongside Metal Gear Solid Rising, for which Kojima gave enigmatic details. "There's a new title that we haven't announced that I've wanted to make for a long time," Kojima told IGN, "and also a couple of other new titles we're preparing now." When asked whether the new games would be continuing any of Kojima's established series, he replied "The one that I said that I've been wanting to make ââ¬â this is a new franchise and a new title. For the other couple of titles, it could be something that you always wanted to have." A return to the Zone of the Enders series has long been heavily touted, though Kojima left a tantalising hint that Peace Walker wouldn't be his last foray into the world of Metal Gear Solid. Speaking of the forthcoming PSP title ââ¬â which has been referred to as his Metal Gear Solid 5 ââ¬â Kojima hinted that it could be laying the groundwork for future games. "My aim is - game-wise, story-wise and the whole world of Peace Walker - it's probably very easily ported to PS3 or 360 or the next-gen," he said, "and that's one of our goals that we're trying to achieve with Peace Walker." Intrigued? We'll be bringing you the full interview with Kojima early tomorrow. GC 2009: Why No Xbox 360 Price Cut? Microsoft may have pulled the drop due to excessive stock. In the hardware wars, console makers typically fight fire with fire. When Sony announced both the PS3 Slim and a price cut to $299 at Gamescom in Germany yesterday, many assumed that Microsoft would naturally take the stage today and either follow suit or even undercut Sony's price move. Neither happened. Xbox 360 pricing across all models remains unchanged for now. Despite a persistent rumor that the Elite model of the Xbox 360 would be slashed to $299, MCV reports that the delayed price drop can be attributed to the number of existing Xbox 360 consoles currently in retail. Only once some of these consoles have been sold and the supply drops will Microsoft makes its play to reduce the price and potentially roll out a new model that could replace the Pro model, which is being phased out. The PS3 Slim and price cut are certainly designed to goose sales of the platform, which consistently chart below the Xbox 360 and Wii. Perhaps Microsoft will take a wait-and-see approach here and determine if the new PS3 model and price jumpstart sales. If Sony moves up, Microsoft could feel forced to quickly retaliate with its own cut and/or new Xbox 360 model. No Public Beta for Modern Warfare 2 - Activision has told CVG that there will be no multiplayer beta for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. The last Inifinity Ward developed Call of Duty, Modern Warfare, had a popular public beta released in advance of the game's sale date. For those looking forward to the new multiplayer features in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, it looks like you'll have to wait until the game hits store shelves on November 10. Activision and Infinity Ward have since clarified its remarks on FourZeroTwo.com. "As I've told you many times in the past, expect no Public Beta unless we announce otherwise. That is still the case. We would never say something as definitive as "No Beta Ever!" as that's simply not how we work. We'll do an internal beta, if we feel a public one is needed, we'll explore that route as well. It is true that we have not announced a Public Beta for MW2, and that remains true unless I announce otherwise." The post goes on to explain that an internal beta is currently running. If that is deemed insufficient, the company would consider a public beta. However, at this time there are no plans for a public beta. I'll update this as GC goes on.
  14. August 19, 2009 - During Microsoft's Gamescom 2009 press briefing Lionhead's director, Peter Molyneux, announced that Fable III is coming in late 2010. Checking his hyperbole as much as possible, Molyneux went on to promise a sequel far bigger and more ambitious than Fable II. It would have to be: You are, after all, going to be ruling all of Albion. Fable III begins by reading your Fable II save. You play as the son or daughter of your Fable II hero. Albion has changed a bit since we last saw it, though all the details of this change aren't yet known. You don't begin Fable III as the ruler of Albion. Instead, you spend the first half of the game gaining support so that you might lay claim to the throne. This requires you to make campaign promises to people and different districts of Albion. Keeping those promises once you are in charge is going to be a whole different matter. It may sound like you are nothing but a politician. Don't worry. There's still plenty of fighting to be had. In fact, Molyneux says that you are seen as a hero type of ruler, comparing your character to Star Trek's Captain Kirk. No word on whether Fable III is adding hot green chicks to the populace. Watch the debut trailer for Fable III. Choice and consequence are still major elements of Fable III, though your choices will have far more dramatic effects on Albion. You control the spending across the land, choosing how much to tax each area, what to spend. You decide which parts of Albion thrive and which might suffer. On top of this, you have the duties of a ruling dignitary, hosting important people from other lands. Albion is not the world, after all, it's just a single continent. And in Fable III, other countries will be involved in the story. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hdh1CoPhjLc No ruler would be complete without someone sitting beside them in the throneroom. Your King or Queen will have a spouse at their side, urging them to make decisions. Your family plays a bigger role in Fable III. Apparently the first big innovation in Fable III is having someone nag you. He or she will be helping you shape the land. It will be a tough task balancing tyranny and compassion, progress and tradition. Molyneux revealed two new gameplay mechanics being added to Fable III. The first is called Judgment. What would a ruler be, after all, without the ability to judge his subjects? People will come to you in court and plead their case. You may be called on to settle disputes or rule on a man's guilt. To help judge people, you can go out and investigate. These sound like side quests, with your hero something like the Scooby Doo of Albion. Of course, there are plenty of opportunities for corruption. We imagine bribery may occur or that, despite the evidence, you may rule against someone just to be a jerk. You have the power. What you do with it is your decision. More interesting is the second feature addition, called Touch. The first layer of this is easy enough to get a handle on. Gone are the silly expressions of Fable II. Instead, you can now choose to kindly take the hand of a fair maiden you've just met. The next time you meet, perhaps it is a warm hug. And slowly that can evolve to a little bit of the down and dirty. Then there is the Dynamic Touch system. In Fable II, if a child were crying you might be told to press A to sooth them. In Fable III, you have far more interactive options. You can actually cradle them in your arm to give comfort. Dynamic Touch also allows you to reach out to anyone you see in Fable III. Hold hands as you watch the sunset or give a reaffirming tap on the back to an ally. Molyneux did not speak of how this mechanic is inputted, but it's possible this will utilize Project Natal. Molyneux is giving a talk at GDC Europe later today, where he will discuss Fable III in more depth. Keep an eye on IGN for any new details revealed at that talk. NEW Ever since Natal was first revealed at this past E3, fans have been wondering what future titles could be including its motion control scheme. Fable III, recently announced at Gamescom 2009 this week, won't be one of those games. Peter Molyneux, creative director at Microsoft Games Studios, failed to discuss adding Natal support during the game's big reveal, and for good reason. According to one Lionhead Studios developer posting on the official forums, Fable III will not be supporting Natal controls. "We have no plans to use Natal for F3 so please stop making threads about it," the developer wrote. During the announcement, Molyneux made mention of several 'Touch' additions to the game, which replaces the expression system found in Fable II. Players will now dynamically interact with characters instead of simply pressing a button. Looks like Natal won't be used for this new mechanic.
