    Official Annex FAQ

    Q: What is "Annex"?

A: "Annex" is a new multiplayer gametype for Gears of War. It is about territory control. At any time during the round a location in the combat arena, called an objective, is available for capture. By standing at that location, denoted by a glowing ring, players capture the objective and begin to accrue points. The enemy team can break the capture by entering the ring and capture it themselves by holding it for a short time.

Q: How does a team win a round of Annex?

A: In order to win the round, a team?¢â??¬â??¢s score must reach the round limit set by the host. The round limit can range from 120 to 480 points and defaults to 240. When a team has captured an objective, points are transferred from the objective to the controlling team?¢â??¬â??¢s score at a rate of 1 point per second. Each new objective starts with 60 points available to be transferred.

Q: How long does it take to capture an objective?

A: When one team has more players in the objective?¢â??¬â??¢s ring than the other, they will begin to capture it. The time it takes to capture an objective is dependent on how many more teammates are in the ring at the same time. For 1 player it takes 8 seconds, 2 players ?¢â??¬â?? 4 seconds, 3 players ?¢â??¬â?? 2 seconds and with 4 players it only takes 1 second. If an enemy enters the ring during that time, the capture process is slowed as the effective teammate count is reduced by the number enemies present.

Q: Does a player who is down-but-not-out (DBNO) still count towards the capture?

    A. Yes, as long as they are within the ring.

Q: After an objective is captured, do I need to stay within the ring to acquire points?

A: No. Once your team acquires the objective, you are free to leave the ring and defend it as you see fit.

Q: How will I know the location of the objective and who currently has control?

A: On the HUD, the current objective appears below the team scores at top left. This indicator contains several pieces of relevant information. The weapon icon inside the circle indicates which weapon-spawn location is being used as the objective. The compass along the outer edge of the circle shows the relative direction to the objective. The number inside the circle indicates how many points remain at that objective and the background icon color indicates which team currently controls it. On the map, a projected ring marks the physical location and boundaries of the objective in the world. The ring's color indicates the current captor: white means neutral, blue COG, and red Locust.

Q: When does the objective switch to a new location?

A: When all 60 points have been transferred from an objective, a new objective location is randomly selected from those available on the map.

Q: Does Annex work on all the existing multiplayer maps, including Raven Down and Old Bones?

    A: Yes.

Q: Can I respawn in Annex?

A: Yes, but spawning is set to a 15 second queue. When you die you can enter the queue at any point meaning you could wait as little as 1 second or as much as 15 seconds before respawning. This allows teammates to spawn together in waves.

Q: How do you guard against spawn camping?

A: We handle spawn camping by randomly choosing a different team respawn location for each wave and we grant newly spawned players a short duration of invulnerability.

Q: Aside from the team score, how do I earn individual points in Annex?

A: Although players still acquire points in all the usual ways (kills, downs, and revives), they will receive additional points for capturing objectives and for the breaking of any captures held by the opposing team.

Q: How does Annex affect gaining achievements?

A: Due to the addition of infinite respawns, any kills in Annex won?¢â??¬â??¢t count towards kill-based achievements like ?¢â??¬???Seriously?¢â??¬?¦?¢â??¬? and ?¢â??¬???The Nuge?¢â??¬?. Since Annex is a new additional gametype, you will not need to play Annex to be granted ?¢â??¬???Mix It Up?¢â??¬?. The basic multiplayer achievements like ?¢â??¬???Always Remember Your First?¢â??¬? are still achievable in Annex.
