To start off, my budget is less than $1000.

I want this to be a pretty good computer for it's budget. I will be rendering videos and playing games on it.
I wanted to build this PC instead of buying one because I want it to have exactly what I want on it. And I want it to last for a long time, so I will be able to upgrade it easily.

PARTS:

Video Card: Radeon HD 4870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16

Mother board: ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO AM3 AMD 785G HDMI ATX AMD

Processor: [UPDATE!!!!] AMD Phenom II X4 945 [/UPDATE!!!!]

Operating System: Windows 7 [UDPATE2] Professional 64-bit OEM ver. [/UPDATE2]

Case: Antec 902

Hard Drive: Western Digital 750 GB Caviar Black

Optical Drive: Samsung SH-S223F with Lightscribe

Power Supply: Antec 550w TruePower New TP-550

RAM: Kingston HyperX 2GB 240-Pin DDR3 1800 (PC3 14400) (getting two of these at least)

Mouse: [UPDATE2] Logitech V220 [/UPDATE2]

Keyboard: [UPDATE2] Logitech (I forget the exact type. Under $10 though) [/UPDATE2]

Speakers: Logitech S-220


EXTRAS: ( If I have enough money afterward or later)

Video Recorder: Blackmagic Intensity Pro

Memory Card Reader: nMEDIAPC ZE-C68 All-in-one USB 2.0 Card Reader w/ USB Port (only $10 at newegg)

If you are getting over 3GB RAM you will need Windows 7 64x I just installed and tbh it is amazingly quick.

For your ram, I would load up your motherboard on the manufacturers website. Then load the confirmed RAM vendors.

Its usually a PDF and you can browse for a perfect (2x2gb) packages then search them for their price and review.

I did. I think it's called the RAM finder or something and this is what it gave me: My Ram

I might use that second one on the list instead.

Get a core I7-920, plenty of power.

Its proven that AMD Phenom IIs perform better with games then I7s do. But I7s are better for other things that need raw power

yeah, but different processors are better at some games than others. AMD might be great at one game while the i7 kicks butt at another.

i would like to see ANY proof about that, i7 wins every time, no matter how little, phenom 2 cannot compete.
I bet you will also tell me that a amd athlon X4 beats a core 2 quad

Intel boy much?
No I won't tell you that an athlon will beat you core 2 quad, because athlons suck, trust me theres one in my current pc.
Here we see the Phenom II and I7 giving very close performance (The Phenom even pulling ahead in some tests ): http://www.pureoverc...p?id=794&page=5
But on the next page, we see that the I7 pulls ahead buy a couple of fps
again, page after that, I7 is pulling ahead by a couple fps

I rest my case that the I7 and Phenom II are very, very close in gaming performance, so another point is, why spend a lot on an Intel build instead of saving lots on an AMD build, especially when they are so close in gaming performance anyways? Plus, AMD systems are far easier to upgrade instead of intel *cough*cough* different socket for every processor *cough*cough*
anyways, Phenom is the best value for those on a budget.

Now as a precaution, I will say that I have no doubt that the I7 would do better in things that require loads of CPU, but personally, I personally would go with AMD anyways, mainly because I've never had a AMD break on me. On the other hand, about 6 Intels have died on me.

only game where they come close is left 4 dead, im awaiting the next wave of amd chips to see the difference.\
But as to this generation, core i7 wins.

UPDATED!! With the new processor Im getting. Amazon delayed my delivery date by 2 weeks because they are buying it from buy.com (weird, I know). So, I cancelled it and I'm getting a faster processor for only $15 more.
