How to mod left 4 dead!

How to Extract the UserSettings File:

1) Open up Xplorer360.exe

2) Go to Drive > Open > Harddrive or Memcard...

3) Go to Partition 3 (or #2 if you don't have #3) > Content > Your Profile > 4510830 > 00000001 (Left 4 Dead).

Where is says, "Your Profile" in the above instructions, it will be listed as a set of numbers in Xplorer360. If you have more than one

gamer profile on your MC/HDD, you'll have to determine which gamer profile you are using. - added here courtesy of playinghalotoday

4) Drag the UserSettings file and extract it from your harddrive.

How to Mod the File:

1) Open up Left4DeadModTool.exe

2) Choose what you want each button to do.

3) Click "Patch File".

4) Choose the UserSettings file that you extracted earlier.

5) If successful the file will now be modded, but needs to be resigned/rehashed.

How to Rehash/Resign the File:

1) Open up the Con Resigner given or your own.

2) Click on 'Open' and choose the MODDED UserSettings file.

3) Click Rehash/Resign.

4) If successful the file is now ready to use on your console.

How to put the file back on your console:

1) Open up Xplorer360.exe

2) Go to Drive > Open > Harddrive or Memcard...

3) Go to Partition 3 > Content > Your Profile > 4510830 > 00000001 (Left 4 Dead)

4) Drag the file back into the directory (If unable to drag go to Edit > Insert File)/

5) Confirm that you want to 'Overwrite the File'.

If everything was successful you will now be able to play Left 4 Dead.

When you get into a game, pressing the buttons you changed will do the actions that you want.

You could also hex edit the usersettings file but the program is much easier.

Here is the program.

L4d_modding_tools.rar

Also note that valve fixed this with a patch, and you must delete the patch to use it off-line.

wow! so its just button swaps?

like you change what the button on the controllers function is in game?

sounds like a hack not a mod. but its still cool.

looks really fun. but not xbl compatible :(

Yeah it just swaps out the commands the buttons do, and uses commands you would use in the pc version to spawn things and have god mode.

This makes it Very easy to get the achievements lol.

hey, I think there is something wrong with the program, whenever I use it, it says an Unhandeled Exception has occurred,

So I just hit continue, and then I resign it and I know my resigner works because I used a few others and it said it was corrupt, so I used CONcept and it worked

Then when I start the campaign on Single Player and I am offline, everything is normal, like I just patched the settings with the normal default settings

(and I have vista, and I also ran the program as an Admin)

So why is it doing this?

Here are the details for the error

See the end of this message for details on invoking

just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************

To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this

application or computer (machine.config) must have the

jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.

The application must also be compiled with debugging

enabled.

For example:

<configuration>

<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />

</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception

will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer

rather than be handled by this dialog box.
