I set it to the green theme because it seemed to mellow out to the background, which was nice

Partly, yes, but then zoomed in 5000000% to fill in all the gaps, which takes a long ass time lol.

Plus getting the right colour was a god damned mission.

Try a 1pixel lighter border around the bit you filled in.

Its quite pixelated, but apart from that its very good.

Paint > Edit > Negative?

Yes, lol I'm too lazy to do a 1 pixel border, and keep in ming its a desktop, not a pro image to be looked at under a microscope.
