Microsoft won't be joining Sony and Nintendo in handheld warfare

Microsoft has gunned down gossip suggesting an Xbox handheld is in the works, crushing gamersâ dreams everywhere in the process.

UK Xbox boss, Stephen McGill, who denied the juicy rumour certainly had his work cut out having earlier denied a brand new Xbox console was in the offing.

The latest crushing blow was delivered in typically, er crushing style. âNo, weâre not looking to do a handheld gaming device.â He said. Canât get any more empathic than that.

But with the Sony PSP 3000 and Nintendo DSi taking all the portable plaudits is Microsoft missing out? Especially since Microsoftâs the only major console maker without a handheld. Probed further on this thread, McGill simply said, âNo thank you, weâve got plenty going on with the 360. We donât want to get distracted by going into the handheld market.â

Shame, so with Microsoft already involved with gaming on Windows Mobileâs it looks like weâll no longer be expecting an Xbox style handheld after all. Sniff.

I dont care if MS goes into the handheld industry. They're probably scared that some group of hackers will exploit it, considering how easily people hacked the psp and DS.

That would make them billions there out of there mind and why does it matter they could make some kind of code and protective stuff it wouldnt be rushed shame on them

i dont really care for the hand held i like my 360 in some aspects it would make it easier but i dont think u could get the gafix that are on the 360 on the hand held o well :)

If Microsoft were to make an xbox handheld that would seem like a step down for them.

Almost like Lamborghini making a compact car meant for fuel efficiency. You know what I mean?

Xbox is so great they dont need a handheld.

If they did make one though, it would have to be better than the psp. Maybe add actual joysticks!?!? lol. That was the killer for the psp. They had all these great games, but the controls sucked terribly. I just use mine to surf the web and watch videos every now and then for maybe a long road trip.

I bet you also cant touch it when its playing or you will scratch the disk and it will overheat, throw the red ring o death, and blow up. lol

i duno about that... i've had my xbox almost 2 years now and i am NOT gentle with it. i hit it when the fans are loud, lug it into my mates car (he has an in car dvd that has a composite input... h3 on the way to uni = win) and its a very speed-bump oriented route from our house to uni... maybe its just mine, but my xbox has been UBER reliable.

the only quarrel i have with it is the loud fan, and it gets a little warm. i plan to improve on that tho :) some mods this summer :p
