Curtis Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 Okay so the other night i got @#%$ed by a virus. Fine w.e so i whipe it and put XP back on (legit xp disk). I download the basics (firefox, live messenger, Flash player) And now it takes forever to log in and out. Often freezing too. Sometimes i can't even login cause it freezes like Sub-Zero. Help?
fattwam Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 do you have all your drivers for everything updated and windows updated ?or is this just loggin into windows ?
Quinn Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 On Startup disconnect you internet cable, see if that helps, if it does, run a long virus check.
Curtis Posted September 17, 2008 Author Report Posted September 17, 2008 (edited) do you have all your drivers for everything updated and windows updated ?or is this just loggin into windows ?Service pack three installed, Audio Drivers, Video Drivers, Usb Drivers (like wtf...), and network drivers. But its for logging into windows. On Startup disconnect you internet cable, see if that helps, if it does, run a long virus check. Yeah did that. Works like a charm. I did some stuff too. See what happens when i try to log out. When i go to log out it says "Saving your Settings". Takes forever! Logging in isn't a problem anymore. Edited September 17, 2008 by DeathGrip
iBotPeaches Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 I recall I had this problem, If my internet was connected I would use 13% CPU load, if it was disconnected I would use 100% CPU which is impossible. I think I had a breed of this virus. With the long load times, I ran Norton 360 and mass ended the process "csrss.exe" and that seemed to help it. Don't know what else to say, even if you formatted you would need to wipe zeros over the harddrive about 35 times to really clear the viruses.
Halo117 Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 Wait did you have SP2 Installed or did you go from SP1 To SP3?
Dark Slipstream Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 Start -> Run -> msconfig If you have SP3:-> Goto the second last tab, and untick them all. (Except maybe the audio driver / antivirus)-> Goto the third last tab, check off 'Hide all Microsoft Services', and then remove the ones that look suspicious. Tell me how fast it loads now.
