xsata is a "blue bar" looking thing that goes beneath your xbox's HDD, but thats simple to use, install the software, and plug it into your computer with the USB or w/e it uses..

 

The "transfer cable" is just a cable.. you should be able to use it without software, plug it into your HDD, somehow (its given by Microsoft, so theres a way it WONT VOID your warranty) and plug into PC, user Xplorer 360 to get files off your xbox's HDD, and do w/e else from then on
