subs_55 Posted May 13, 2008 Report Posted May 13, 2008 well im downloading it. apparently it is supose to be a operating system. a modded xp that looks like vista. it has has a bunch of things like sp2 slipstreamed into it. has anyone heard of this? how does it work? better then XP/Vista? is it worth bothering with? EDIT: i have looked at it and one thing can describe my first impression..... pretty freeaking sweet. it looks like vista, works like it except it get rid of all the little pains in the ass that it gives. it is reconized as xp. comes with loads of programs slipstreamed into it. full customization of everything kinda like linux except more user friendly. personaly i love it. im going to use it a bit more and update then.
iBotPeaches Posted May 13, 2008 Report Posted May 13, 2008 Operating systems are something that only the masters can build. I wouldn't do it. Too much on the line for something that is extremely buggy.
subs_55 Posted May 14, 2008 Author Report Posted May 14, 2008 Operating systems are something that only the masters can build. I wouldn't do it. Too much on the line for something that is extremely buggy. well the thing is i can afford to exparement. my family runs a computer repair shop. we have plenty of computers to test with and i can easily re-format or fix it if it doesn't work. i looked at it for a moment and it looks really nice and seams too work good enough. but i haven really used it so..... ill post how it is later when i use it abit more.

matty0 Posted July 9, 2008 Report Posted July 9, 2008 i've done a little bit of OS editing... it works but its never as solid as a propper xp build. i strongly advis using standard xp and using either windowblinds or style xp to customise the appearence. and as for the programs, tweaks etc. u can get them all seperately and tweak yourself... there is no advantage 2 this. and it's less likely to last.

Mcmodder♥ Posted August 27, 2008 Report Posted August 27, 2008 ib had some thin like that that makes it look like vista but i got rid of it cus it slows ur pc down like hell
matty0 Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 i have been running it ever sesne i downloaded it an posted this. it works amazing, not a problem yet, i dont run any virus protection what soever an still perfect. personaly i think it beats xp or vista royally.couple of things for you to consider. (before i go into this, im rediculusly oppinionated...if i say stuff that comes across harsh i dont mean it that way... so sorry in advance lol) xp, the most reliable windows based platform ever. might look a little frumpy but it does its job better than anyone.Adding a visual style requires 2 things, a better graphics processor & more ram. now, as you are downloading an operating system based on it having a cool name (lol) and for its appearance, im going to guess you are a teenager. and that leads to gaming. Now, as your family run a pc store, i would suggest you already know this. but i will re-itterate. RAM and GPU are the 2 main (ok processor 2..) components for gaming. and as you will have this theme running at all times behind the scenes, your performance will be severely slashed. and as a gamer myself, i know that lag sucks balls. big time. so thats reason 1 that that os is a bad idea. Reason 2.having a downloaded os (with no antivirus...i mean come on!!!) is asking for your infomation to be stolen!!! remember, the guys/girls who put this togeather, got an illegal version of xp, then added (slipstreamed) illegal (pre-cracked i assume) programs into it... then quite probably slipstreamed an xp activation crack in there as well (or a *grace period* anti-wpa).and you think they wont want anything for there trouble?... if you'd had a go at this yourself you would see that its bloody difficult to program this, and to confine it to a 700mb cd is even harder!!! (most of these things seem 2 b 700mb...if not then thats more simple) so to assume they did it out of the goodness of there computer piratey heart is almost nil dont you think?... this will have a virus of some discription. and sometime it will affect you. so i suggest getting rid of it ASAP, downloading a corporate version of xp pro sp3 (that way it wont require any form of activation crack, and it will update legitimately forever) then downloading windowblinds 6.2 (cracking is a pain but i can help with that) and downloading a vista theme. (there ALL OVER) then putting on a decent anti-virus!!! and then finaly getting your programs. this will be much more time consuming, much more aukward, and much less fun. but id rather this than some annoying little ****** getting my ebay details and buying himself a new car. so yeah, sorry if i sound biggoted, but im right tbh... just do it manualy. you'll learn more as well which is a bonus Matty0 {BlackXhorneT} ...sorry this came out like an essay... ps, window blinds uses less memory to run a theme than vista does to run its basic (non aero) theme. so you'd get a vista look, with xp performance and no virus... and as an added bonus you will be thrusted into the world of GUI customising, which will always make your pc look more interesting than your friends =D more good news!
Korupt Data Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 I like windows black... its the same kinda deal i used to have it on my old pc b4 i scraped it for this one.

The theme is essentialy VTP7 (vista transformation pack 7) and it isnt bad at all. however, as those of you who downloaded this pack will know, it has the infamous glitchy "ViOrb" build. i could'nt find "ViStart" in the programs, however i just glanced at the OS so i admit it could have been missed. ok bad stuff now. driver compatiblity is quite poor. normaly all builds of xp i have used (Home Sp2, Pro Sp1, Pro SP2, Pro Sp3, Pro Sp3 Corp, Media Centre...i've built a lot of computers lol) have all managed to find basic yet functional drivers for higher end products. whereas this OS diddn't even attempt. it took the drivers after i installed from cd (bear in mind this is in VM ware... dosent usualy need drivers 2 my knowledge) but i found (graphics in particular) responce times to be much slower, i know that VM ware isnt as quick as a booting os, but even so it was noticeably slower. now, i gave the full os a scan after instalation, i scanned with *Norton anvirus 2008, Mcafee total protect 2009, and avg pro 8.01* all came back negative, except avg that found 2 trojans in a hidden folder in Local Disk/Windows/System 32. it removed these without any difficulty, but just saying... there are viruses on there. now finaly, and yes i am regressing here. after a more in depth look, i realise that this os diddnt deserve the punnishment i threw at it however i have got some more advice for you which i think you will find interesting and is in no way offensive. if you like modded operating systems, the vista theme, and stripped out "bloat ware" then i suggest something called "Vista Lite" its not based on xp, its vista. so theres no emulated theme, and as its stripped down it runs faster than a standard build of xp pro (sp3). i personaly (after trying out this Vision pro) looked into modded operating systems and this appeared to be the best i could find. the buid i downloaded (Vista Ultimate Lite SP1) has got service pack 1 integrated (obvious from the title but best to make these points surely) all the useless crap that microsoft wack in there is chopped out, and the paradox OEM emulation kit is the only thing slipstreamed. so you have a fully activated version of vista ultimate (with aero btw) that is usualy 2.9gb, only 800mb... i bought a special 900mb cd just for it and i will be trying it on my girlfriends laptop at the weekend. i will let you know of the results. the interesting thing about this os is that usual vista builds require about 512mb of ram and 12gb hard risk space. however this build requires 128mb of ram and 2gb hard disk! thats an improvement in anyones eyes! it has its disadvantages dont get me wrong, its had all the protection and built in drivers removed except those required to install itself. so this means you will need to have a driver disk at hand. however the crack is a 100% fix so windows update will almost certainly fix all compatibilty issues without a hitch. now, i hope you will understand that i carefuly thought about what to say here, and that i put it across in a more mature way. now i can't make you understand my views, however i assure you that they are educated ones. so if you take them into consideration then i consider it a compliment, if you don't then thats up to you. matty0 Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 ok, ive installed vista lite on my gf's laptop and i have quite a posative oppinion of it really first of all, gf's laptop spec.-2.2ghz centrino 2 processor-1gb ram-120gb hdd-integrated nvidea 7100gs graphics card-realtek gold wave media card (sound card) its an "unatended" install, so it installs start to finnish without you toutching the computer, you dont need a serial or any options. this sounds cool but its quite annoying that (being english) it automaticaly installs it with the american keyboard layout... this can be fixed afterwards but i found it annoying lol. the install took only 25mins! and it was fully activated without any help =D also, something that pleased me, it did have some drivers left in! it had the wifi modem, and the sound card without any help from me. cos of this, (coupled with the OEM activation crack) i went strait onto windows update and it downloaded drivers for all the other hardware, and about 200mb of updates and games =D it boots in around 15 secconds! (to the log on screen) which is super fast! and as of yet its had not 1 error! i put windows defender on it (this is the only antivirus i put on it for now, she dosent like avg...) and microsoft office blue edition 2007 on it and then we went onto the music side (me and the missus are both budding producers) well the studio programs she wanted are,Reason 4Cubase sx3Hypersonic 2Audition 3(some drivers for her midi keyboard) all of this worked ok, but with UBER latency!!! so if you are a budding producer yourself, i had to download and install a new asio driver. so i got "asio4all 2.9" and now there is no latency at all =D (oh and we installed the ps2 eyetoy as her webcam =p) so yeah, there's my mini review =) if anyone wants a more in depth analysis i will be happy to give one, but they are my innitial impressions. hope they help =)
