Curtis Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 Razr v2 Motorola today announced the Razr v2, the newest addition to its Razr lineup of cell phones. The v2 has a large 2" external display that sports innovative haptics technology which simulates the feel of a real button press on the touch sensitive display. It will be available in CDMA/EVDO and GSM/EDGE/HSDPA versions this summer. The Razr v2 is 2mm slimmer than previous Razr's and some (not all) versions will run Motorola's Linux/Java platform (finally a new OS!). We assume that the some means that Verizon users will be stuck with BREW again. The v2 has a 500 Mhz ARM processor, USB 2.0, software that automatically turns up the volume when you are in a noisy area and text to speech capabilities. It also sports 2GB of built in memory (or 420MB depending on the version), A2DP for stereo bluetooth and syncs with Windows Media Player. An updated HTML browser is on board as well as Motosync software that allows you to sync with corporate email and calendars. For your imaging needs you have a 2 megapixel camera and bluetooth printing. You can also use the camera to stream video to others. In addition to the Razr v2 Motorola spent a lot of time touting their already announced lineup of handsets, including the Motorola Q8 GSM, Q9 and Rizr Z8. Motorola's market share has been tanking lately and the company has been scrambling the recapture the magic they had with the original Razr. The Razr lineup itself has been commodified as the average cost of the handset has plummeted in recent years. This means that despite the fact that they have shipped 98 million Razr's worldwide Motorola has seen their earnings drop. Will the Razr v2 change this? It's certainly a major upgrade to the lineup, but people might also look at it and see just another Razr. We'll find out this summer for sure.
