sparta Posted April 29, 2008 Report Posted April 29, 2008 ok so I've decided to buy a new computer but there one thing i can't decided on and that is if i should get xp or vista see im mostly going to use this computer for playing steam games such as half-life and garry's mod and i know there are some compatibility issue with vista but I'm also going to do a little school work on it too so i need you guys help on this most likely im getting a desktop and i have the spec mostly planed out but if you guys can recommend anything it would be greatly appreciated also the website I'm using is http://www.cyberpowerpc.com but if you think there is a better website please say so
SmokiestGrunl Posted April 29, 2008 Report Posted April 29, 2008 I like XP better, only cuz I don't really know s*** about Vista. I don't think there are any compatibility problems with Steam and there games. I do have steam on my laptop which does also have Vista. I only got a few games and they all work fine. I have Counter Strike: Source, Gary's Mod, Orange Box and a few other little mods from stream. Another good site for computers would be alienware, be careful I spent over $14,000 buying my new computer. This is only because I bought everything that I possibly could (gaming mouse, 2TB externalHD, etc). The site your looking at is fine, http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/r02/ri02.asp all those computers there have good specs and everything, all it comes down to is how much your willing to spend.
sparta Posted April 30, 2008 Author Report Posted April 30, 2008 I've saved up about 1600 so im hoping to getting a really good one but wow 14000 wish i could get that much also i was wonder if anyone could recommend any anti-virus,anti-spyware, you know things like that i am probably going to use Norton Internet security 2008 but if you guys know a better one please say so
SmokiestGrunl Posted April 30, 2008 Report Posted April 30, 2008 Spybot: search and destroy, Ad-Aware, Zone Alarm, AVG, Nortan and scan all the files your DL prior to use.
fattwam Posted April 30, 2008 Report Posted April 30, 2008 also these are very good they find most virus'sPandaPrevx1eSafe
subs_55 Posted April 30, 2008 Report Posted April 30, 2008 go with XP or linux as an alternative. with vista it doesnt allow you to use a program it doesnt reconize. its a pain. and for a virus program id go with kaspersky. i find it works the best. but if you know how to format computers you might want to go my method. none at all. viruses nad hackers seem to ignore you, because you dont stand out or seem challanging enough. and viruses protection programs slow your computer down alot. hope this helps
Curtis Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 Use nod32. Very light weight program. With a firewall.
Sephiroth69 Posted June 8, 2008 Report Posted June 8, 2008 I Beleive Intel is better than Amd. Intel costs more though.
.Eli Posted June 11, 2008 Report Posted June 11, 2008 Personally, i prefer vista over xp now. Vista has become more compatible with many programs, and games now. And since my computer is bad ass, It runs way faster. But xp does have its advantages if you have a game that isnt fully compatible for vista yet.
sparta Posted June 13, 2008 Author Report Posted June 13, 2008 basically ive decided on amd and vista been saving up and im going to buy it probably this weekend
Dark Slipstream Posted June 13, 2008 Report Posted June 13, 2008 xp is better performance, in all categories. Vista is better appearance, but avg. performance. If you wanted a professional opinion, do a clean install of vista, logon to the "Administrator" root account, then goto Add/Remove Programs and remove them ALL. THen instal what you want. Note: Keep drivers, wireless stuff etc. Remove Norton, DVD Copy software, antispyware, and other useless stuff.
