Curtis Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 Okay guys i bought a car a couple of months back. Its great. Only came with a 10" sub and a 200 watt amp. So... What should i run? The 200 watt amp pushes the 10 pretty good. One of my friends has a 150x2 alpine amp pushing 2 12"s and it sounds pretty damn good. (his amp http://www.epinions.com/pr-Alpine_Car_Ster...Audio_Amplifier So how big do i need to go? And what size of Subs? Also what is RMS? Let's hope someone helps me here. The car is a Chevy Beretta v6 3.1 multi-pot.
Laxmonster54♥ Posted April 3, 2008 Report Posted April 3, 2008 Two CVR 12's with a 600 watt amp. Or If you want something that will hit hard get what My friend has witch is to CVR 15's with a 1400 watt amp and four kicker comp 12's. That thing is loud. I bet you can get two 15's in there. But trust me One of them hits hard enough.
Curtis Posted April 3, 2008 Author Report Posted April 3, 2008 What brand is CRV? I was thinking more like Clarion/Alpine. With a 600 watt amp do i need to wire my mids to the amp? My deck sucks. Which im fine with. 600 watt amps are somewhat expensive so where can i get a good deal? Im looking at 2 12's and a 600 watt amp now.

They are basically Comps on steroids. And You do need to wire your mids to the Amp. Get CVR 12s
Snowmon333♥ Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 What brand is CRV? I was thinking more like Clarion/Alpine. With a 600 watt amp do i need to wire my mids to the amp? My deck sucks. Im looking at 2 12's and a 600 watt amp now. by them stolen *cough* thats what my brother did cause they were great condition but real cheap
Curtis Posted April 4, 2008 Author Report Posted April 4, 2008 I know nothing about electrical yet. I'm all mechanical. So if i have a 600 watt amp... How much power would be going into my mids and how many into the 2 12's? No im not stealing or buying stolen iteams. Anyone have a wiring diagram? ***New Idea*** I can get a 1000 watt amp for $200... So... How much power would be going to my mids and how many to my subs? I think that's going to overpower my mids way too much... My deck only puts out 50x4 wattage. Some help please?
blacklabelfosho Posted April 7, 2008 Report Posted April 7, 2008 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2-Kicker ... enameZWDVW go there now.and drool. that is what you put in your car okay?square subs sound best in hatchbacks now i will show you what im getting in my Oldsmobile Delta 88'i have 4 12" subs but they are really low RMS im getting 4 of these and a brand new alternatorhttp://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_565 ... -3212.html
Curtis Posted April 7, 2008 Author Report Posted April 7, 2008 OMFG. Thats so crazy... I won't have a fricken trunk left.
blacklabelfosho Posted April 7, 2008 Report Posted April 7, 2008 you dont need trunk boyand with those...you wont have your backseat either
Curtis Posted April 9, 2008 Author Report Posted April 9, 2008 Haha boy? I am 16. But yeah i don't think anyone is going to want to ride in the back of my @#%$in car with those babys. Thats soo crazy. I think i might just stick with 600 watts. I know my friend has a 150x2 watt amp and it hurts the ears. Just imagine 600
blacklabelfosho Posted April 9, 2008 Report Posted April 9, 2008 it doesn't matter how big your amp is...if your sub's can't push the power your amp is putting out, they will blow.so upgrade your subs first.... then amps.i would suggest making sure u have a big enough alternaterget a capacitorand make sure you find out how big of air space you need inside your boxand how big your air port should be also.i recommend double layering your boxes.and buying Dynamat for your trunk also, so it doesn't rattle.thats my problem.and i have the entire thing covered in my sound proofing material and it still rattles like a muhfker
Curtis Posted April 9, 2008 Author Report Posted April 9, 2008 Yeah my alternator had to work fairly hard this spring. I had listend to the music without turning the car on. I know that my alternator is quite small but ill look into it. The trunk of my car rattles pretty @#%$in bad. So i know what a capacitor is but what about the air port, air space and what is dual layering? I was looking at getting some decent subs and maybe a lower quality amp becasue i can get a 1000 watt amp for $150.
blacklabelfosho Posted April 9, 2008 Report Posted April 9, 2008 on your box for your subs.you need a port in the box so air can flow to the back of the subwoofer.what i ment by dual layering your box,is if you use a wood box, put two layers of wood before you seal it up make sure your box is the size your subs are rated for.your subs will hit 10x as hard if you get the perfect size box for them. if you get a 1000w amp, dont run it at max power all the time, i would suggest running it at about half, or 750w.also when you get that size amp, if you are running two subs through the one amp, make sure you compensate for the two subs both trying to pull from the one amp.you could get two 500w rms subs for your one amp, run them in parallel, and they would work great.just don't run your subs, or amp at max power for too long...yeah its cool that your car is really loud at that max power, but thats how you blow your subs. also i recommend you get the same brand amp as your subs,bc some companies like to screw you on the amp.like sometimes they will say your subs are rated at max 800w - 400w rms but the subs can barely handle 600w as a max and about 300w rms.but they seem to screw you on the amps at about the same amount. see in my car,im going to have 4 3000w max subs, and im going to get 2 8000w amps.run each two subs off of each of the amps, run the amps at about half power all times.then for competitions... turn them up to about 3/4 all the way on. ive got a super high output alternator, you might want to go into a music store that you trust and ask about how much you needon your output to be able to run your subs. im running two batteries in the trunk and a super battery in the front.1 gauge wireing running to the back. try and get welding wire to run the back for your subs.it works the best, and its a little more expensive, but you wont regret it in the end. damn i need to stop.lol, i think you can tell i love music, this is why im a music major
Curtis Posted April 10, 2008 Author Report Posted April 10, 2008 Haha wow. Thanks alot man. I love music too. My friends pretty much are laughing at me. "Your going to spend that much money on a sound system?" It's like @#%$ you. I have a job. You get a job. Then get a car. Maybe then you can talk to me. I`m thinking that 1000w is just too much right now. I still have to make payments on my insurence in the summer. I was thinking maybe like a 600watt mono amp? Or should i channel for higher quality? This seems all confusing to me at the moment. And if you don`t mind me asking do you think i can see your sound system and maybe your sound proof stuff.Just snap a couple of photos if you get some spare time. I`ll go snap some quick pics of my beauty too. Don`t laugh becasue all i have is a 200 watt and 1 10. Thats only because i just bought the car and the only work i`ve done on it so far is a wheel bearing and the front brake pads. Well i gotta get to school maybe i`ll post more there.
crazyeightz Posted April 10, 2008 Report Posted April 10, 2008 wow! blacklabel ur my hero... i am totally changing my respect list with you on it now.. and i am just getting a car for myself which is great.. i love music... and umm haha when the time comes blacklabel i am totally coming to you for advice
Curtis Posted April 10, 2008 Author Report Posted April 10, 2008 You just started respecting this guy??? What is your problem? He should be a sub-admin. But anyways... I'm thinking about buying my amp of EBay... Good idea? I'll save alot of money which in turn will go into my subs.
crazyeightz Posted April 10, 2008 Report Posted April 10, 2008 haha yeh but i havent really read any of his posts and stuff till now... haha but yeh same question for me too
Curtis Posted April 10, 2008 Author Report Posted April 10, 2008 You need to work on getting a car first and then actualy listen to music. I'll look in the auto trader for a decent car for you. What is your price range?
blacklabelfosho Posted April 10, 2008 Report Posted April 10, 2008 http://www.ibotmodz.net/forum/uploads/remoteimages/11467-288.jpg thats my subs right now,i just ran out and grabbed some subs and amps from Best Buy, and threw them in there really quick.they hit pretty damn loud, but im in college, and all my money is going to pay for my classes,i have a video of em, before i put in all the matting though... the Sound proofing material you are looking for is called DynaMat.http://www.dynamat.com/products_car_aud ... k_kit.html i had to buy 5 of those packs, to stop my car from rattling so much lol! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIMPTlTAFtQvideo...ill try to make another one, now that i have put the matting in and upgraded both the amps to 600w amps the mat you see in the video is just laying on the ground, i have a little put up in the top of the trunk but its not done, and you can see my air port right in the middle of the wood holding the four subs up. mind you... this is a video caught on a cell phone...so sound is crappy, and i was showing my friends it, so its not even that loud of a song lol. anyways, ill post later when i get better video..feel free to poke around my photobucket too, i have lots of stuff on there.lots of mods i have taken pictures of for people, and other stuff lol
Curtis Posted April 10, 2008 Author Report Posted April 10, 2008 I started crying when i seen this. How big is the amp in that video? What kind of speaker box is that? Cream... And i seen in the picture there it looks alot better. What is that black stuff you covered it with now? In the video it looked like it was yellow or something... but in the pic its black. I wish there was some more members who knew about this stuff. Blacklabel knows his s*** though.
blacklabelfosho Posted April 10, 2008 Report Posted April 10, 2008 it was wood in the first videothe picture is after i put a layer of dynamat downand then put carpet over top of it i custom build my box to fit perfectly into my trunk there are 2 600w amps back thereand 4, 8 ohm 12' speakersi also have 2 6'9 in the back of my car, and 2 tweeters in the front
Curtis Posted April 10, 2008 Author Report Posted April 10, 2008 Oh okay. I love your system. Those tweaters sound good i bet. I have a question about ohms. Isn't it better to have 2 ohm speakers rather than 8? It resists less flow of electricity doesn't it? Do you have your amps bridged? Are your mids hooked to your amps? Sorry for all the questions. I'm learing alot. I'm sure if i buy a 600watt amp and 2 12's that will be plenty. Right?
