iBotModz_Bot Posted May 25, 2013 Report Posted May 25, 2013 Along with 100 Million Xbox 360's over the next 5 years Microsoft thinks the next-gen generation of consoles will be greatly more then current trends with total lifetime of 1 billion units when combined PS4/XBONE/WiiU sales http://www.maxconsole.com/maxconsole/contents/RKSID00000000000000000899/icon_xl.jpg Microsoft has sold roughly 76 Million Xbox 360's over the last 8 years, and they believe it will sell another 25 million units over the next 5 years, giving them a total of 100 Million systems, and when combined with other current-gen systems making for close to 400 million systems, and over the last few generations sales of consoles have increased by about 40% with each new generation so Microsoft thinks it is not unreasonable to guess the combined sales of next-generation between Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo will be around the ONE Billion mark over the next decade. "We believe over the next five years we can break a 100 million unit installed base," Medhi began. That's something we're shooting for, it's not a financial plan as such, it's just rough numbers if you will. To sell another 25 million, half of those will probably come from replacements, but half will come from new buyers. And the way we'll break into those segments is by hitting new price points, getting new classes of entertainment to come with the Xbox, and breaking into new customer segments. So you'll see the Xbox 360 continue to exist, even as we launch the next generation Xbox One." Moreover, Medhi thinks the general entertainment capabilities of Xbox One and PS4 will more than double their selling power. "We think you can go broader than a game console, that's our aim, and you can go from 400 million to potentially upwards of a billion units [update: just to clarify, he's talking about all next gen consoles combined here]. That's how we're thinking of the Xbox opportunity as we go forward." Great idea, yets see with 7 Billion people on Earth, that means 1 in 7 will buy an next-gen console, unless there is alot of 'tech failures' and a ton of early replacements. -- I don't even think there is 1 billion people with fastest enough 'net to support the CLOUD that this generation will need to fully operate their new always-connected boxes, we better invest in upgrading our ISP's and wires asap over the next decade if this 'goal' is going to work.
