Randomrocket Posted July 28, 2011 Report Posted July 28, 2011 Nero's Dubstep symphony http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5JAxgFe4hpE&feature=player_embedded Broadcasted on BBC. A very beautiful piece of music. America seems to have this disgust of techno/dubstep. No radio stations, no tv shows, nothing with any of this. And then you go britain where they enjoy it enough to broadcast dubstep over the BBC network around the world! I may move to Britain one day just to enjoy my music.... 1
iBotPeaches Posted July 28, 2011 Report Posted July 28, 2011 Dubstep/techno is just not mainstream enough for radios and TVs and I hope it never gets there. It will change the industry that needs no changing.
Quinn Posted July 28, 2011 Report Posted July 28, 2011 I thought this was going to be something like wikileaks...
Randomrocket Posted July 28, 2011 Author Report Posted July 28, 2011 Dubstep/techno is just not mainstream enough for radios and TVs and I hope it never gets there. It will change the industry that needs no changing.I just wish people give it the respect it deserves. I try talking about techno to people, they think it takes no skill to make and its a stupid waste of time. I dont expect it to change the industry lol .......... but it would be epic to have someone like Tiesto play at the Super Bowl half time show
blacklabelfosho Posted July 28, 2011 Report Posted July 28, 2011 this piece made me so angry for the first 6 1/2 minutes.the entire orchestra was used as chords under the 2 guys in the back controlling the one synth.at about 7:00 it becomes a very nice piece but a little too repetative, there should be a contrast of the main theme.then at about 10:00 i fall in love w/ the piece because it is some of the darkest sounding music i've heard since some hanz zimmer stuff. at about 11:00 when the synth is louder than the entire orchestra kind of angers me because the synth should be the support of the orchestra not the other way around.then at about 12:15 when the synth fades i see what the composer was doing with the synth being so loud before. lets you rehear the raindrops sound that is being continued throughout the development section before.13:00 beautiful violin solo / then awesome low brass with recapitulation from the B section in the violins which is intricately hidden because it is played inversely15:25 has an awesome clearing sound when the percussion fades suddenly as the instrumentation continues.piece ends w/ all playing original motive. best part of this piece was the development section, i thought the theme was too basic for the amount of time the composer spent on it at the beginning. i found myself trying to find something new he would add, but it was just spread a little too thin for my taste my first dubstep song ive ever heard. I'll look more of it up, but it seems to be like a trance/techno setup w/ a feel of actual thought process of how music should be composed. i feel that techno has always fell short of actual music because its too sparadic and just filled with too many ideas for the listener to hear and thats why it has never become mainstream. this is why most people who listen to techno before thought it was just music for the drug addict because you cant possibly understand what all is going on unless you can watch the instrumentation play each part. i would like to say it was something completely new for my ear and i enjoyed it for the most part. i would hate to play in an orchestra like this lol, i would be so bored sitting in the back with my trumpet waiting 30 measures to play 1 long sustained tone after another. then rest for another rediculous amount of time just to play some more long notes. xD
iBotPeaches Posted July 28, 2011 Report Posted July 28, 2011 Very true true. I think people associate techno too much with just anything synthesized. There is a large difference between the tracks deadmau5 make and that Tiesto make. I'd say deadmau5 is more of the electro trance era, as Tiesto is a lot more into the like euro-styled trance. Then you can go completely into Skrillex which is closer towards the dub side. Then theres the less popular artists like Flux / Doctor P that just have as beautiful tracks, but don't get as much as fame. Can't argue with you as you know what your talking about. I'm just a guy whos been listening to techno for awhile. The ultimate downfall of techno would be the integration into the United States pop stream. You can tell that some famous artists are already mixing some bass drops and synthetic beats in order to start slowly move into the dub scene. That group thats like LMFOA something has already been releasing tons of tracks that are close to border-lining into techno. What also pisses me off is people who think techno is just throwing 2 songs on top of eachother and aligning the BPM and calling it techno. Maybe if I'm drunk as hell and in a club, those songs are fine, but they aren't true techno.
REDSTAR 105 Posted July 28, 2011 Report Posted July 28, 2011 Techno in general gets so much hate and criticism from people that stick to the mainstream stuff. My first thoughts of techno were also pretty negative, but as I started to hear it more and more, I stated to love it.Now I'm a dubstep/D&B/House junkie......
Randomrocket Posted July 28, 2011 Author Report Posted July 28, 2011 best part of this piece was the development section, i thought the theme was too basic for the amount of time the composer spent on it at the beginning. i found myself trying to find something new he would add, but it was just spread a little too thin for my taste I actually felt like it ended and I was just sitting here waiting for it to really kick in myself. It was a very good piece of music but it ends and you're just like "what? no epic finale?" my first dubstep song ive ever heard. I'll look more of it up, but it seems to be like a trance/techno setup w/ a feel of actual thought process of how music should be composed. i feel that techno has always fell short of actual music because its too sparadic and just filled with too many ideas for the listener to hear and thats why it has never become mainstream. this is why most people who listen to techno before thought it was just music for the drug addict because you cant possibly understand what all is going on unless you can watch the instrumentation play each part. i would like to say it was something completely new for my ear and i enjoyed it for the most part.Haha yeah when I start listening to a new song, ill play it about 4 times, each time I try listening to it in a different way. Ill try to pick out the bass or the percussion or whatever with each play. Im not a huge fan of dubstep, but there are that can really get me pumped. I prefer the euro style of techno mostly but I had an asian friend introduce me to some asian techno and it gets pretty sick lol What also pisses me off is people who think techno is just throwing 2 songs on top of eachother and aligning the BPM and calling it techno. Maybe if I'm drunk as hell and in a club, those songs are fine, but they aren't true techno.Or I'll try showing them a techno remix of Hey Soul Sister (a song that has been overplayed since it first came out and the remix made it 28372398712x better) and they will just say "oh they just sped up the original and added bass to it" or something.
Random1225 Posted July 29, 2011 Report Posted July 29, 2011 I don't really want stuff like this to go mainstream. I mean do we really want that? Justin Biebers doing dubstep?. Something I hate is that all the kids that like dubstep at my school bash all other edm. Its like yay other people who like edm and then they hear me listening to some trance or house and their like "wtf is that gay shit bla bla dubstep bla bla womp womp womp"
blacklabelfosho Posted July 29, 2011 Report Posted July 29, 2011 (edited) If you wanna hear some real music that will totally destroy your eardrums listen to this. It is stravinsky's Rite of Spring. yes its old classical but its prolly one of the best composed pieces that i can think of that is a precursor to the idea of the rhythmical challenges of techno/dubstep idea. The story behind this piece is fking awesome too.back in old England during medieval period it was believed that men could ask the gods for help in their growing of crops. Men would gather the most beautiful virgin women in the colony and select the most beautiful to be sacrificed to the gods for a bountiful crop that year. the Right of spring is a piece that depicts the ceremonies that are taken place during the selection of the "perfect virgin". 3:30 is pretty monsterous. gah its so boss Edited July 29, 2011 by blacklabelfosho
