Slidell Posted February 16, 2011 Report Posted February 16, 2011 http://www.geek.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/Skin-cell-Gun-550-x-348.jpg The skin gun is not science fiction—it's a prototype medical device that literally sprays skin cells onto burn victims to re-grow skin. Old methods like skin grafts took weeks to heal; the skin gun needs about an hour. Though it is still technically in an experimental stage, the skin gun has already successfully treated over a dozen burn victims. The way it works is by using stem cells from the patient's healthy skin and mixing it with a solution to come up with the spray paint. And combined with that fancy gun, the rest is easy. Doctors say "skin cell spraying is like paint spraying". The video has some graphic burn images, so don't watch unless you have the stomach for it. Via Gizmodo
REDSTAR 105 Posted February 16, 2011 Report Posted February 16, 2011 Looks like a pretty good idea, hopefully we'll see other stuff like this within the next few years.
Lockon Posted February 16, 2011 Report Posted February 16, 2011 Lets take a minute here and thank Science for all the stuff we have in our lives.
Twis7eD Posted February 16, 2011 Report Posted February 16, 2011 (edited) Just gotta say that you make the most amazing posts. I don't know where you find half of this stuff. This is pretty amazing. The only thing I would have liked to see in the video is the before and after shot and not just the after shot. The narrator said "this is what the skin probably looked like before treatment". Why wouldn't they have just gotten a picture beforehand if they knew they were going to do this? It would have been a better idea so that we could see the changes that he actually went through.
