iBotPeaches Posted January 26, 2008 Report Posted January 26, 2008 Nintendo isn't quite the giant it was a million years ago, but thecompany is still going strong. The Wii represents a wacky newphilosophy of a console for everyone, young or old - a Volkswagen ofgaming, even. But despite Nintendo's experience and great intentions, the Wii is hardly free of alienating annoyances. In a lot of ways thecute little thing is actually more frustrating and intimidating thanany of its predecessors. And the thing is, most of this stuff couldhave been avoided. Is it just us, or should this kind of stuff not haveto be tolerated in this day and age? Here's what gamers have beenbitching about... VC Games Tied to Individual Wiishttp://www.1up.com/media?id=3107825Wantto play a little Bomberman at your friend's house? He's going to haveto buy it, or you're going to have to lug your Wii over. No pop-outablehard drive. No logging on to your account from over there. NoiTunes-like keying of your game library to your SD card. We can seewanting to avoid piracy, but the Wii is something Nintendo could updateto kill freeloading tricks when and if they came up, and most anyonewith that mentality already has all these games for their emulators, anyway. Pretty much the only reason this doesn't rank higher iscompared to lugging around any other system moving a Wii is likecarrying a memory card. If you're one of those stone agebastards who doesn't have everything from your PC to your coffeemakerlinked up through a cloud of magic computer rays, well, tough. Youcan't plug the little ******* into a wall (the only way is to order aseperate USB to LAN adapter).Seems like if you won't join the wireless age then Nintendo justdoesn't want you playing their online games. You know, if they had any.

http://www.ibotmodz.net/forum/uploads/remoteimages1/6151-39.gif

Being Onlinehttp://www.1up.com/media?id=3108002Where the PS3 has a lousy, all-over-the-place online scheme with ahandful of games trying to make it work, Nintendo seems to have apotentially great online setup with absolutely no games whatsoevertaking advantage of it. For now and the immediate future there justisn't any point to even hooking the thing up other than downloading VCgames or trading your Miis around. Which can get old after about thefifteenth Jesus or Michael Jackson wanders into your Mii parade.

http://www.ibotmodz.net/forum/uploads/remoteimages1/6151-39.gif

20 Hour Battery Lifehttp://www.1up.com/media?id=3107826Yeah, it beeps and shakes and stuff, but still, that's pretty damnshort for a wireless controller. Worse, it's the only one thisgeneration that you can't just plug in to a USB port to recharge. You're either going to have to buy a battery charger, or stockpile anassload of AAs. Whee.

http://www.ibotmodz.net/forum/uploads/remoteimages1/6151-39.gif

Classic Controllerhttp://www.1up.com/media?id=3107827You have to buy one for an awful damn lot of the Virtual Console games. That's fine. In fact, it's such a nice little controller that we ratherwish we could use it instead of the GameCube controller for Cube games.Which we freaking can't. What also bugs us is that it's required at allfor some of the VC games - there really isn't any reason someone whowanted to skip yet another optional purchase shouldn't be able to playMario 64 with a Wiimote and 'chuck. Worse, you have to plug the bastardinto your Wiimote, further contributing to the flood of AAs going tobattery heaven.

http://www.ibotmodz.net/forum/uploads/remoteimages1/6151-39.gif

No Pack-in Component Cableshttp://www.1up.com/media?id=3107831At this point we're still just relieved that Wii even supports it, butit's yet another expense on top of an already big pile of stuff. Yeah, the Wii is cheap, but we're getting nickel and dimed to death on stuffthat really should have been in the box. We're even less impressed thatthe ones we already got for the Gamecube don't work.

http://www.ibotmodz.net/forum/uploads/remoteimages1/6151-39.gif

Not Region Freehttp://www.1up.com/media?id=3107834We're not just feeling petulant because Nintendo's Perrin Kaplanpromised us and we didn't get a pony. Once upon a time this might havebeen a lot to ask, but after the DS, PSP, PS3 and to some extent the360 all let us play imports it's something we've come to expect.

http://www.ibotmodz.net/forum/uploads/remoteimages1/6151-39.gif

Weak Wrist Straphttp://www.1up.com/media?id=3107839Considering all the warnings in the user manual and the constantin-game reminders to only use the Wii-mote with the strap lest you accidentally destroy everyone and everything you ever loved, you'd think they'd have made one that wouldn't break if you stare at it too hard.

http://www.ibotmodz.net/forum/uploads/remoteimages1/6151-39.gif

Short Sensor Bar Cordhttp://www.1up.com/media?id=3107837This won't be any kind of problem for most. For those with frontprojection TVs, however, this can amount to a monumental pain in theass. All you can really do about it is cut the damn thing and splice inan extra length of wire, or maybe you could cobble together somethingelse as a surrogate sensor -- it's just a light emitter, after all. It's just a shame that there isn't a longer cord, a wireless option, orhell, if the thing isn't actually communicating with the Wii why can'twe just plug it into the wall?

http://www.ibotmodz.net/forum/uploads/remoteimages1/6151-39.gif

Mii Shortcomingshttp://www.1up.com/media?id=3107832They don't have ears! How the hell are we supposed to make unflatteringcaricatures of the president? Alright, we're just being assholes there. It's actually kind of a compliment that we couldn't think of anythingworse.http://www.1up.com/media?id=1985907
SmokiestGrunl Posted January 26, 2008 Report Posted January 26, 2008 I really hate wii Really boring. There are some HTML errors in this post. Could you please allow HTML please
NeoBatWare Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 Interesting thoughts on the Wii. I've seen so many mixed opinions about it that i don't really listen to them any more. I have a Wii but also a 360. I guess I'm one of those Wii60 people. I haven't played much of my Wii in a while, but just now I'm starting to get back into it. It's lack of power and good online play are the two things that really bug me. But with games like Medal of Honor Heroes 2 out with code less online gaming coming out as well as Brawl, I'm excited for the next gift giving holiday because I know what I'll be asking for!
