swampy666 Posted November 29, 2009 Report Posted November 29, 2009 (edited) There's this thing in my computer that doesn't let me view, open, delete, copy, move, or rename certain files. Does anyone know a way i can remove it or get around it in anyway? here's an example of something i was trying to rename: Edited November 29, 2009 by swampy666
gruntlord6 Posted November 29, 2009 Report Posted November 29, 2009 do you have ownership of the files?
iBotPeaches Posted November 29, 2009 Report Posted November 29, 2009 Or the simple question, is it being used? Is that picture your desktop background? Did some software install it? Go to run and type in "msconfig" Then go to the startup tab and un-check everything that doesn't look legit. Then restart, and hopefully you will have permission to delete it. (Assuming you prevented non-legitimate programs from loading on start-up)
swampy666 Posted November 29, 2009 Author Report Posted November 29, 2009 I did but i dont know now,I belive it is being used, yes that is my desktop, nope those are some of my photos, this all happened when i tried to install a program, & that computer isn't connected to the internet so i think it messed with my setting or somethingalright ima try that
gruntlord6 Posted November 29, 2009 Report Posted November 29, 2009 im not sure how to set permissions in xp. its been a while since I have had unrestricted access to an xp computer.
swampy666 Posted November 29, 2009 Author Report Posted November 29, 2009 it's ok,well that didnt work, these are the only ones checked: http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l191/fallen_zero0033/7.png I think that program made my account to a guest, am I right? http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l191/fallen_zero0033/10.png and it wont let me access "my documents" either http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l191/fallen_zero0033/9.png
Quinn Posted November 29, 2009 Report Posted November 29, 2009 I had this before, couldn't find a fix, sometimes it worked properly after a re-boot for a while. I ended up re-formatting
swampy666 Posted November 30, 2009 Author Report Posted November 30, 2009 (edited) so you just restarted your computer and sometimes it doesn't have the protection on it? Edited November 30, 2009 by swampy666
gruntmods Posted November 30, 2009 Report Posted November 30, 2009 reinstall windows if you cant find the problem after a week or 2.
Quinn Posted December 1, 2009 Report Posted December 1, 2009 so you just restarted your computer and sometimes it doesn't have the protection on it? sometimes it would, sometimes it wouldn't. I still recommend a format and re-install of the OS
swampy666 Posted December 1, 2009 Author Report Posted December 1, 2009 (edited) Will I loose my files that are under that protection if I do that? Edited December 1, 2009 by swampy666
miinaturvat Posted December 1, 2009 Report Posted December 1, 2009 Surely you can copy then to a USB stick or something? And have you tried right-clicking them and making sure they're not "read-only"?
Quinn Posted December 1, 2009 Report Posted December 1, 2009 Will I loose my files that are under that protection if I do that? Yes, unless you disable the protection, move em to a usb stick then put them back on the pc later
swampy666 Posted December 2, 2009 Author Report Posted December 2, 2009 I've tried that before, it won't let me copy or move them from the spot they're at when the virus hit. And have you tried right-clicking them and making sure they're not "read-only"? lol if only it was that simple, but the problem with that is if they're "read-only" you can still view/play the file just not change anything on it, but I can't even view it
bmanns Posted December 2, 2009 Report Posted December 2, 2009 Put the drive in another computer and run chkdisk. Does that user account have a password? Remove it.
gruntmods Posted December 7, 2009 Report Posted December 7, 2009 Administrator permissions?change OS?
Diggy Posted December 8, 2009 Report Posted December 8, 2009 Have you tried putting them on a USB and trying to open/edit the pics on another computer? Just a stab at the dark really but it could narrow down the problem if you can open them.
swampy666 Posted December 11, 2009 Author Report Posted December 11, 2009 yes i have, it won't let me move them to any external hard drives , but thanks anyway
Diggy Posted December 11, 2009 Report Posted December 11, 2009 yes i have, it won't let me move them to any external hard drives , but thanks anywayIf it were me in your position, I would re-format my computer, but I guess it's your decision.
