BTKC124 Posted November 21, 2009 Report Posted November 21, 2009 even if it only makes us a few bucks a year it will help http://linkbucks.com/
Grammaton Cleric Posted November 21, 2009 Report Posted November 21, 2009 Not only is that site annoying, it turns people off from what they are doing. 1
BTKC124 Posted November 21, 2009 Author Report Posted November 21, 2009 but it will up the site revenue
iBotPeaches Posted November 21, 2009 Report Posted November 21, 2009 I honestly hate the thing, and I don't want to put that on the members. Its soo cheap to have to click link after link just to get to that original link.
Pargy Posted November 21, 2009 Report Posted November 21, 2009 ...i hate those sites and it wouldnt make a difference, you would make like $1 a year.
fattwam Posted November 22, 2009 Report Posted November 22, 2009 we just have to find a nice happy medium for the ads cause sure everyone hates ads but it makes the site money and helpspays for hosting charges. Cause right now sure we have almost no ads but we arnt making that much money
iBotPeaches Posted November 22, 2009 Report Posted November 22, 2009 Actually browse the site as a guest or normal member (member with no posts), and you'll see all the ads
fattwam Posted November 22, 2009 Report Posted November 22, 2009 Actually browse the site as a guest or normal member (member with no posts), and you'll see all the ads was it me who suggested that ?
Curtis Posted November 22, 2009 Report Posted November 22, 2009 ads ftl linnkbuxx for more lose, ibotmodz is dead anyways.. SOTw?
Grammaton Cleric Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 Just use Firefox and whip out some AdBlock Plus!
Quinn Posted November 24, 2009 Report Posted November 24, 2009 Just use Firefox and whip out some AdBlock Plus! Yeah, and take away what little money there is in the first place >_<
Grammaton Cleric Posted November 24, 2009 Report Posted November 24, 2009 lol, hosting CAN be cheap. In all honesty, using ads to make money is a piss poor excuse. A part-time job at minimum wage (at least $100/mo.) can sustain a pretty decent VPS. Ads make sites less appearing, just look at Xbox360ISO... it's almost impossible to use without AdBlock...
fattwam Posted November 24, 2009 Report Posted November 24, 2009 Currently iBotModz is being hosted on one of my dedicated servers with the specs of Core2Quad Q6600 2.4GHz (quad-core/64bit support)4GB RAM750GB 7200 HDD100Mbit port - full duplex Unmetered transfer And saying that "ads to make money is a piss poor excuse" is just plain wrong... My current main source of income is from ads and is currently paying for both of my dedicated servers and licencing, PLUS all my "In Real Life" activitiesSo i would suggest you do some research befor making false statments. And yes "Xbox360ISO" is loaded with ads, you have to find a nice happy medium with a good "CTR" Thanksfattwam
test10 Posted November 24, 2009 Report Posted November 24, 2009 In all honesty, using ads to make money is a piss poor excuse. A part-time job at minimum wage (at least $100/mo.) can sustain a pretty decent VPS. Why would you use money you earned in real life to support an online websites? All websites should support themselves via ads. There are only 2 ads per page for normal members here, and once you get 2 posts theres only 1 ad. Just saying theres not a lot of ads here at all
Grammaton Cleric Posted November 24, 2009 Report Posted November 24, 2009 It's always real life, it's either online or not. If you owned a website, and made an income, but still used ads, then your pathetic. Ads amount to a grand total of what, 10% of the sites payment? What a waste of time, pay for it yourself, if you can't afford $200 a month, then you shouldn't have even owned that website... lol
fattwam Posted November 24, 2009 Report Posted November 24, 2009 It's always real life, it's either online or not. If you owned a website, and made an income, but still used ads, then your pathetic. What a waste of time, pay for it yourself, if you can't afford $200 a month, then you shouldn't have even owned that website... lol i actually lol'ed When you say "Ads amount to a grand total of what, 10% of the sites payment?" im guessing you mean "Income/Revenu" im curious to find out where did you get this number from ? Or did you just make it up to make your argument sound more realistic ?Not all websites sell products to create income, Most if not all websites that do not sell products make money via ads. For example :Youtube - They dont sell anything but they have ads on all their page.Google - Google owns Adsence they take a percent from all ads they are displaying.Facebook - Facebook displayes ads on all user profiles.Myspace - Myspace had ads on all user pages just like facebook.Photobycket - Displayes ads on all their pages.Flickr - Flickr displayes ads on all their pages aswell. So far i do not see a point in your argument...Anyways, Back on track First you say In all honesty, using ads to make money is a piss poor excuse. A part-time job at minimum wage (at least $100/mo.) can sustain a pretty decent VPS. Then you say If you owned a website, and made an income, but still used ads, then your pathetic. So iBotModz does not sell a product or service, This is why we are displaying adsI look forward to reading your Rebuttal -fattwam
Curtis Posted November 24, 2009 Report Posted November 24, 2009 Fatttttwam Ftw, you are good argueing
iBotPeaches Posted November 24, 2009 Report Posted November 24, 2009 Also, why are ads part of the argument? Once you get more than 2 posts, your moved to the Members+ group which only has the sidebar ad. I fail to see why adding ads is a piss poor excuse. Since iBotModz doesn't charge anything for any of its uses, I'll send the bill to for now on since you feel working outside of the site should cover it. Renewals for IPB are coming up soon.
Grammaton Cleric Posted November 24, 2009 Report Posted November 24, 2009 So iBotModz does not sell a product or service, This is why we are displaying adsI look forward to reading your Rebuttal -fattwam Why doesn't the owner use money he makes from a job to pay the website? How is that hard to understand? He said so himself, he doesn't beleive his own website is worth his own money.
iBotPeaches Posted November 24, 2009 Report Posted November 24, 2009 I've used my own money that I make from my job multiple times. When I first bought IPB, when I first bought the server, and when I bought a few modification for the board. However, since I get nothing in return I wanted the website to be able to run itself for the renewals. Ads didn't cover that... So once again I used my own money to keep the board updated. Then I asked for donations and they payed for the server which is where we are now
Grammaton Cleric Posted November 24, 2009 Report Posted November 24, 2009 (edited) So, even though ads don't cover the cost, it's still worth having so many ads for guests (turn off), while you are capable of paying it yourself? lol... Edited November 24, 2009 by Grammaton Cleric
