Randomrocket Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 (edited) Hey. I'm building a computer and I need some input. I want this PC to last at least through college, so I'm making as good as possible. The main focus of this computer (for now at least. I'm not sure about in college) is video editing and gaming. The processor, I'm thinking will be a AMD Phenom II X4 810. Because quad-cores are powerful and good at multitasking. I just need help on a TV tuner. I want a TV tuner for recording videos. I have an external one but it kind of sucks and an internal one will be faster. I don't care if it has a remote, I won't be needing one, but the cheaper and better quality it has, the better. It needs to record from A/V input and have sound. I would really love for some input here, instead of going to some guy at a store that will encourage me to buy anything. EDIT: Okay. I think I'm going to go with Blackmagic Intensity Pro. It is really nice. Edited October 11, 2009 by Randomrocket
T3A guy Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 Get an ATI graphics card, Nividia is failing all over the place. And don't get 64 bit unless you're getting over 4 gb of ram.
Randomrocket Posted October 6, 2009 Author Report Posted October 6, 2009 Well, for a graphics card, I was thinking either two EVGA 256-P2-N753-TR GeForce 8600 GTs or one Radeon HD 4870 1GB What do you think?
iBotPeaches Posted October 7, 2009 Report Posted October 7, 2009 Anything in that ATI 4000 family will suffice for what your using. This has been a favorite for my cards, just make sure you have proper cooling for it Newegg.com - SAPPHIRE 100245HDMI Radeon HD 4850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards
Quinn Posted October 7, 2009 Report Posted October 7, 2009 Before anyone can offer solid recommendations, we need to know you budget range. For a lower cost PC, go with AMD, but for intense gaming with a large budget, Go Intel
lostmodz26 Posted October 7, 2009 Report Posted October 7, 2009 I would suggest that you get a Dazzle Capture Card rather than using a TV Tuner Card. I'd also go with that Quad Core processor, mainly because its past my wildest dreams.

For a lower cost PC, go with AMD, but for intense gaming with a large budget, Go IntelMy budget is less than $1000. I'm not going for intense gaming. Just average gaming every now and then. Mostly just speed is what I want and multi-tasking. I'm wanting at least dual-monitors, but the more cheaper, and more monitors, the better.

Bottom line is you are not going to do dual moniters for that price. If you did, you would be buying a system that has less gaming capacity than my $400 laptop

I could get some pretty cheap stuff to go along with it. Like this $25 cd drive. And if I run out of money, I can always salvage some things for temporary use from an ancient Windows 98 computer. lol.

If you want a card that you are going to use a lot, get one with a heat spreader. And for games, I've got a real life example here. One of my buddies that lives 5 mins away built his computer, Quad core I7 high 700's, 6gb of ram. He bought a 512mb gaming graphics card, heat spreader and all. He cannot run Crysis with a decent FPS with any graphics settings over low/very low. Take that into consideration, and if you do any gaming with games like Crysis, get at least a 1gb card, aim for a Direct X 11 card if you can afford it. On my own PC, I would not use two moniters, its a graphics hog and I find it quite frankly annoying. Just my Opinion. Also, if this is a budget build (which I guess it is) don't get a sound card, I find that integrated sound does quite well. Try and re-use parts you have.Edit: Spelling & Grammar Edited October 8, 2009 by Quinn
