It shows you are a dedicated member, and you can't just change your name whenever you want.

Actually, Dr Peaches explained exactly why it should be 1000 posts before you can change your name.

 

I forgot where it was now, but it definately made sense

 

And anyway, if you get your name changed, it's not fare on everyone else on this site.
