I just discovered this after finally getting frustrated down to my last left nerve with trying to copy and paste from notepad in forums like this, clicking down the paths in the Windows Registry, etc. You know, the minute you click to the window you're working on, the notepad minimizes again. Then you have to open it again to do more...like browse and click to the fifth sub-folder in a path.

 

I read about utilities like TweakUI and others to prevent apps from stealing focus, but I didn't want to install something like that just to get one single feature out of it. And frankly, I didn't want to install anything I don't have to, and have it load with windows and running in the background all the time. I just wanted something easily available for those few times when I actually need it. Well, here it is. imho, it deserves one of those best things since sliced bread awards.

 

This program runs in the system tray and allows you to make windows

"sticky", so that they remain above other windows. This is useful

for keeping readme files such as this one visible while installing

software, keeping floating clocks in sight, and lots of other uses.

 

I have included a copy of ctl3d32.dll in case you need it. Most

system have a copy already but there have been a few people who

write to me each month saying that the dll is missing. If you don't

have it copy it into your windowssystem directory. Most people won't

need to worry about it.

The author's site is gone now. It's an old application. But it's working just fine in my XP Home. I've put the extracted zip in a tools folder that I keep in My Documents, and put a shortcut to it in my taskbar. When I need it, I open it. The icon is now in my systray and I just right click it, select "Nail" and then click the notepad with the mouse-thumbtack. Do the reverse to "UnNail".

 

I haven't gotten an opportunity to try it with other applications yet to see how it might work with them, but I'm happy as heck over notepad finally staying put when I need it.
