reaper603603 Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 i recently sent my xbox in for a $30 repair bye a guy on craigslist. everything went well. he had it fixed on the same day i sent it to him and i had it up and running that night. everything was good until a few minutes ago i(ts been about a week). i was playing and all of a sudden it got two red lights. my TV went to video 1 my wired controller shut off. (obviously) and my fan shut off and my xbox winked those familiar two red lights at me. i shut it off and sat it and the power brick next to a fan. the guy replaced the x-clamps with a repair kit. {obviously that didn't work} do any of you here know of ANY success's to fix this issue? please respond quickly i am in desperate need to get this fix. got a friend who paid $400 dollars to fly down and hang with me for the summer and it will be VERY boring with out the xbox. thank you to everyone that helps. sincerely, Seth (reaper603603) XBL GT (reaper603) Email (seth1993@live.com) 1
lostmodz26 Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 Well it seems that your really desperate. Have you tried the towel trick yet?
REDSTAR 105 Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 The towel trick heats the console up to a dangerous level and is as likely to fry the rest of the components as fix anything. Considering how all current 360s are still under warranty for the RROD (unless you broke the warranty) there is no reason why someone should be trying this.
reaper603603 Posted June 23, 2009 Author Report Posted June 23, 2009 you two both where the ones to comment. funny. like i said in the shoutbox i wont burn my xbox with towels. my warranty is over. and i had nothing to lose but open it up. any other suggestions? lostmodz26 Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 Why don't you try doing a DIY: http://www.xbox360rally.com/diy-xbox-360-rrod-fix/
iBotPeaches Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 If I'm correct 2 red lights is like Hardware failure. They cause of all problems roots with heat. Your console is getting too hot and either melting that xClamp or just wreaking havoc on the rest of the system. Would you happen to have the Nkyo Air Cooler? That hogs resources from the xbox and actually does more damage than it helps. In other words to fix, you need to get a new xbox from M$. That will insure you get a new version of motherboard that has its components properly placed and protected from heat abuse. Since those heatsinks and video cards and heat up a ton. 1

Actually peaches, your right. The cooler works, so yeah xbox's are only $169 used at gamestop without HDD. In fact, I'm gonna get the cooler because I heard that it really does basically make your 360 impossible to overhead and its like 15 bucks I think.

Um...You must not have fully understood what I wrote. The cooler does NOT help. I've heard from many sources that it destroys 360's. Sometimes it heats up too much and that cheap plastic melts to the 360, so its permanently attached. It draws too much power from the 360, makes a helluva a racket and doesn't help. This article should explain it more: http://helpmerick.com/xbox-360-nyko-intercooler-overheat-problems.htm
reaper603603 Posted June 23, 2009 Author Report Posted June 23, 2009 i actually left my sharper image fan facing my xbox all night and until today and it cooled down and is working i now have the fan pointed at it at all times. since it is power on its own power cord i have to problems with the fan taking xbox power or burning it more.
Decatur Posted June 25, 2009 Report Posted June 25, 2009 If it's 2 rings, crack that bitch open and go to town with compressed air, it's not like you have a warranty after X-clamp.
Random1225 Posted June 26, 2009 Report Posted June 26, 2009 (edited) I get the two rings like every other day. It just fixes itself after a while for me so I'm not gonna send it back till it's completly dead. Also when I switched how my 360 sat (It stood up, but now I lay it on it's side) it started to work.
