SmokiestGrunl Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 (edited) How to dual boot Ubuntu easilyBy SmokiestGrunl This tutorial will teach you how to dual boot Ubuntu the easy way. Before continuing on with the tutorial make sure you have the following. Check list:Ubuntu Auto Installer - Download256 MB of RAMAtleast 5 GB of hard disk spaceWindows 98, 2000, XP or Vista 1. Open the Ubuntu Auto Installer 2. Choose the drive that you want to install it on. I have installed mine onto the C: drive and it works perfectly along side Windows XP. 3. Select how much space you will be allocating to Ubuntu, on my previous install I had selected 10GB. All it comes down to his how much you plan on using Ubuntu, if you plan on using it lots you may want some more space. 4. Select the desktop environment that you would like to install. You can choose between: Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Xubuntu or Mythbuntu. I'm not sure what the difference is between the four and if you are interested in installing an option other than Ubuntu you will have to do the research for each one on you own. I will be installing Ubuntu. 5. Choose your language, from the look of it every language is supported. I will be choosing English as I do not speak any other language. 6. Next set a username and password, these options are mandatory and the username must be in lower case. 7. If you need to activate any accessibility options, press the "Accessibility" button. 8. Then press the "Install" button, if you were on the "Accessibility" form press "Next" then "Install". 9. Ubuntu .iso will then start to download, I'm not sure how big it is but I think it is around 1GB. 10. Once it is installed I had to restart twice to get the operating system seclection screen. This screen appears while your computer is starting up, before the Windows loading screen (if you see this screen you missed the dual boot screen). You have ten seconds to choose what opperating system you would like to use, after the ten seconds your computer will automatically choose Windows. 11. You will know be dual booting Windows and Ubuntu. Uninstalling Since you have installed Ubuntu using the auto installer uninstalling Ubuntu is now easy, uninstall it by using Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel. lostmodz26 Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 Yeah, I tried this a long time ago with an earlier version of Ubuntu on a computer with 512MB ram. It froze when I started Ubuntu on the login screen. Everyone says it works and it really is safe. Nice share Smoky.
SmokiestGrunl Posted June 1, 2009 Author Report Posted June 1, 2009 Thanks, and yeah it is safe and easy. I had to uninstall the first install to make this tutorial and I've had no problems.
