BTKC124 Posted May 19, 2009 Report Posted May 19, 2009 (edited) http://www.stardock.com/products/fences/images/headerdownload.jpgWhat is Fences?Fences⢠is a program that helps you organize your desktop and can hide your icons when they're not in use. A "Fence", a term coined by this program, is an icon group on your desktop. Fences is an add-on to your desktop, not a replacement. Basic FeaturesRope off your desktopFences allows you to create shaded areas on your desktop that you can place icons in. You can label them however you wish, and move/resize them anywhere on the desktop. Pre-included layouts help speed the process for new users. See your wallpaper again! Quickly hide & show all your icons with an easy double-clickDouble click blank space on your desktop, and all your icons will fade out. Double click again, and theyâll return. We think this feature is so useful, weâre applying for a patent on it. And with the upcoming Fences FeaturePack / included in the community preview, you can even pick icons and individual Fences to exclude. SmartFences, snapshots, skinning, automatic scaling (for screen size changes), and moreFences is a great tool to have - and with Fences Pro FeaturePack, it'll be even better. The Fences FeaturePack is not yet available, but sign up here to be notified when it is. http://www.stardock.com/products/fences/images/header.jpg FAQI'm a beginner. Is this tool for me?Yes. Fences is intuitive to use, has a simple user-interface, and is designed to lead you through every step if you want it to. Put it on mom & pop's computer without fear.I'm an advanced user. Is this tool for me?In a big way. Fences is low load, streamlined and unobtrusive. Advanced users will never need to open the config dialog to manage their Fences, and will find that they never notice Fences except for the fact that their desktop is finally usable. Advanced users will love the fact that Fences can maintain different icon layouts on a per-screen-resolution basis. This is really neat, but I wanted super-3d-futuristic graphics and stuffFences was created with maximum compatibility and usefulness in mind. Instead of just making your desktop "totally-cool!"...in a totally-non-practical way, Fences skips the fluff and focuses on doing one thing right: being useful. That said, its slick presentation and smooth animation make it look great while it does that, too. Be sure to catch the video of it in action on the front page. What are Fences' System Requirements?Fences runs on all of Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. On Vista and Win7, both 32bit and 64bit versions are supported.Since Fences uses nearly no system resources, having the operating system is its only requirement Screen Shotshttp://www.stardock.com/products/fences/images/screenshots/DesktopFences_ss1_s.jpghttp://www.stardock.com/products/fences/images/screenshots/DesktopFences_ss2_s.jpg http://www.stardock.com/products/fences/images/screenshots/DesktopFences_ss3_s.jpghttp://www.stardock.com/products/fences/images/screenshots/DesktopFences_ss4_s.jpghttp://www.stardock.com/products/fences/images/screenshots/DesktopFences_ss5_s.jpghttp://www.stardock.com/products/fences/images/screenshots/DesktopFences_ss6_s.jpg Video What aren't the screen shots not enough?http://www.stardock.com/products/fences/images/Play.png Enough Reading, I Want it!Fences v0.96 Community-Preview Beta - FREEUse the download button to get your copy of Fences.(Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0 is a pre-requisite for installation.)This release is a beta / community preview, and will expire on August 31, 2009.Fences is free and will remain free ; we hope to have a Pro version with even more features available later this year.http://www.stardock.com/products/fences/images/btnDownload.jpg Edited May 19, 2009 by BTKC124
iBotPeaches Posted May 20, 2009 Report Posted May 20, 2009 I love this, my desktop is so cool now. It has all the default icons, then you double click in the secret area and all my apps come back.
iBotPeaches Posted May 20, 2009 Report Posted May 20, 2009 It runs less then it does to keep notepad open.
BTKC124 Posted May 20, 2009 Author Report Posted May 20, 2009 It runs less then it does to keep notepad open. Exactly, One of the Few Windows Customizing Programs that add more than they take.
