Mothership Zeta takes Fallout 3 in an entirely new direction ââ¬â outer space. Meet new characters and join with them in a desperate bid to escape the Aliensââ¬â¢ clutches. To do so, youââ¬â¢ll wield powerful new weapons, like the Alien Atomizer, Alien Disintegrator, and Drone Cannon, and deck yourself out in brand new outfits, like the Gemini-Era Spacesuit and even Samurai Armor. Explore the vast Mothership and learn the secrets of the Aliensââ¬â¢ master plan. Thwart the Aliensââ¬â¢ attempt to stop your escape, and take over the Alien ship before it wreaks havoc on the unsuspecting Earth below. Fight against the Alien Invaders, their robot drones, and turn their own horrible experiments against them. There's also some new armor not in the pic called the space suit. IGN: What about for Mothership Zeta? Todd Howard: If you poke around Fallout 3, you can find a crashed UFO with an alien inside that is broadcasting a signal your Pip-Boy picks up. This is where you can get the alien blaster. Well, Mothership Zeta is answering the distress call. You get abducted and the whole thing takes place on a giant alien spacecraft. It's one of those classic 50's B movie type things, but with a harder edge. Todd Howard: We just try to do different things, do some stuff visually and gameplay-wise the main game didn't do. So the vibe of Point Lookout is really different, and the same with Mothership Zeta. With Point Lookout, we wanted a larger landscape, a new place to explore; really explore, as opposed to Anchorage and The Pitt that are more linear. With Mothership Zeta, that started as something we always kind of joked about, doing an alien-abduction game. It's crazy visually, since we couldn't really reuse any art from the main game. Fallout 3's lead artist Istvan Pely is heading that DLC up, and it's some great stuff. It looks like a new game. IGN: Will these add-ons take place in the post-game world of Project Purity that was set up in Broken Steel? In other words, will actions in that download affect the either Point Lookout or Mothership Zeta? Todd Howard: They work either way, kind of like our other quests in that they play out whether you have finished the main game or not. IGN: Will Point Lookout or Mothership Zeta once again lift the level cap for 360 and PC players that have hit 30 already? Todd Howard: Neither affects the level cap, so it's whatever your game is already at. If you have Broken Steel, it will be 30, if not, it will be 20. IGN: Will anything in Point Lookout or Mothership Zeta give us hints about what to expect in Fallout: New Vegas? Todd Howard: No, New Vegas is a totally different game being developed by Obsidian Entertainment. IGN: Will this be the end of downloadable add-ons to Fallout 3 or can we expect more announcements towards the end of this year? Todd Howard: I think this will be it. But I've thought that before too. IGN: Once again, we must ask: will any of these downloads offer up Dogmeat Armor? Todd Howard: How much would you pay for one that uses Liberty Prime's voice chip and makes Dogmeat talk like a giant robot while blasting people to chunky soup? MTV Multiplayer Blog- Speaking with Jeff Gardiner, who has been at the helm of the "Fallout 3" DLC content, I was curious what sort of weapons we'd be seeing in Mothership Zeta, the upcoming alien-centric expansion. Thankfully it looks like there is plenty to keep our trigger fingers humming: "Mothership Zeta is full of the most high tech weaponry in the game. It includes a Shock Baton for melee fighters, multiple new firearms including an Alien Atomizer, a pistol, and the Alien Disintegrator, a new rifle. There's also a new grenade type, a Cryo Grenade, which freezes enemies for a short period of time. On top of that there are new unique weapons, and a new heavy weapon." Gardiner continued, saying that there will also be a new perk to unlock, called "Xenotech Expert." "It increases the damage you do with alien weapons, including the Alien Blaster if the player had found that in the wasteland." The perk will be mission-specific, though, since this DLC (along with all forthcoming DLC packs) doesn't increase the level cap. Once you've finished with the Mothership main quest, you'll still be able to return to the alien ship. There's definitely a reason to journey back, as the ship houses an item called "Alien Epoxy" which can automatically repair an item by 25%, even if you don't have a duplicate. Great news for all the Gauss Rifle fans who have only been able to repair it to 50% with vendors. On approaching the wreckage, the player is then "beamed up" into the alien mothership, Mothership Zeta, where they will meet other prisoners who have also been abducted over the centuries. Together, they must help each other to escape. Shortly after being beamed aboard, the aliens conduct an experiment that leaves the Lone Wanderer unconscious. Shortly thereafter, they awaken in a cell with another abductee named Somah. She explains that all of their equipment has been taken. She comes up with a plan of escape by faking a fist fight between them in order to provoke the aliens into intervening which succeeds allowing both to overpower the aliens before setting off in search of other abductees as well as a way to escape. They eventually come across Sally, a little girl who was abducted at the start of the Great War, who asks them to help her escape by destroying the reactor in the room. After freeing her, she states that she knows a lot about the ship because of the length of time she has spent here and she is willing to help the Lone Wanderer explore the ship for an escape route. After following Sally through the ship and into the engine room, the player is led to a cryo-tube area by Sally who suggests waking the frozen prisoners in order to retrieve a space suit from an astronaut who is among them. They all awaken except for the astronaut who dies as Sally explains that they don't always return from stasis. She explains that the only way to fix the teleporter you need is to destroy three generators in order to distract the aliens allowing you to spacewalk to where you can reactivate it. Three of the abductees will offer to follow you through each of the generator areas: Elliot will follow you into the cryo labs, Somah will follow you through the Robotics Factory, and Paulson will join you in the Hangar. After you have enabled the teleporter, the group is beamed to the upper section of the Mothership where they witness the ship's Death Ray demonstrated by the aliens as a threat to scare them into surrendering. The player must then fight their way through the second saucer section which consists of a weapons laboratory, biological experimentation lab, Death Ray control center, living quarters, and finally, the bridge. There, the player and the rest of the abductees must defend the bridge while at the same time use the ship's weapons to defend against an attacking alien vessel similar to their own. Upon defeating the ship, the abductees celebrate and Sally reports that in the midst of all of the chaos on the bridge, she pushed a button which had dropped a beacon on surface allowing the player to beam back and forth from the Wasteland. Characters: Colonel Hartigan is a Colonel in the USAF, as well as a United States Space Administration astronaut, abducted during a space flight before the Great War. His recording demonstrates him trying to make a peaceful "first contact" with the aliens, until he is somewhat violently cut-off by them. In 2277, Colonel Hartigan is frozen dead in a cryo-pod in the Engineering Core of Mothership Zeta, presumably due to some failure of the process. Despite his death, he does provide a vital service by allowing the Lone Wanderer to collect his spacesuit, allowing the Wanderer to complete a spacewalk and access other areas of the Mothership. Elliot Tercorien was a soldier in the United States Armed Forces, more specifically, a medic. He was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska when he and his squad were suddenly beamed up to Mothership Zeta. Only two other members of his squad survive but are kept frozen seperately near what appears to be a surgery with the rest of his squad's bodies. If you revive the other 2 squad members before Elliot has had time to restore their memories then they will become hostile to each other as well as you. If you talk to Elliot, you can either put them out of their misery or revive them. If they are revived, they only have a limited amount of time before they die. During his interrogation, he admitted not wanting to "get a post in the field," and was hoping to get an administrative job in Washington instead. He has been kept in Cyro-Sleep ever since. He is armed with an R91 Assault Rifle (though may be inclined to pick up any alien weapons laying about) and wears a suit of Winterized Medic Armor. He can transform Alien Biogel into Adapted Biogel, though he does warn the player that there may be some side-effects. After This Galaxy Ain't Big Enough... is completed, he remains aboard the Mothership, admitting he's not got much to return to. He will also give you an unlimited supply of Alien guns if you return to him on the ship, but you can only obtain one at a time. Trivia If the player has completed the Operation: Anchorage add-on, the player can remark on how his uniform "looks familiar", probably because it's almost identical to Winterized Combat Armor minus the gloves and with the U.S. Army logo at the base of the neck. (NOTE: Players have this speech option whether or not they have completed Operation: Anchorage if they have it downloaded.) His name is a reference to the television show Scrubs; Elliot Tercorien's name is a portmanteau of the character names Eliot Reid, Christopher Turk, and John Dorian, all of whom are also doctors. Paulson- is armed with his own unique, scopeless .44 Magnum, called Paulson's Revolver. He wears his own, unique, outfit and a unique Sheriff's Hat. After he is released from his cryo-sleep, he is obsessed with getting revenge "on every last one of those bastards". When he and the other abductees capture an Alien, he shoots it. After a speech check or using the Black Widow perk you can find out that his reasons for revenge are because he was seperated from his wife and kid. Following the events of mothership zeta, Paulson leaves the ship to wander the wastes, it is not known if Paulson is an active npc in the capital wasteland. Bugs Paulson, like many other characters, has the tendency to hold his .44 Magnum upside down and at a weird angle from his hand. This seems to have no effect on the game. If brought into the hangar and killed by the aliens, his body will disappear making obtaining his weapons impossible. The developers somehow knew about this and never fixed it. If you go back to the door that you went through into engineering, the bodies will be "teleported" there. Sally is a child abducted along with her sister by aliens. Her parents were killed in the Great War and her sister is killed by the Aliens, but the Aliens leave her alive for unknown reasons. Sally is extremely knowledgeable about the Alien ship, having escaped from her holding cell multiple times to explore the ship. She will assist the PC throughout the Mothership Zeta quests, opening doors or providing intel as you move through the ship. After completion of the Mothership Zeta quests, Sally stays aboard the alien starship and scrounges for materials. The PC can return to the starship at any point and ask if she's found anything, and she will give the items to the PC. Sally's age is questionable. She mentions her parents dying in the great war, which was 200 years ago, yet she appears to be only 9 or 10. This, combined with the fact that Paulson, Elliott Tercorienand, and Toshiro Kago seem to have no concept of the current state of the world until told, and only Elliott can make a distinction between Chinese people, communist Chinese soldiers, and Japanese samurai indicates that all test subjects aboard the mothership are placed into cryogenic storage until the next battery of tests. Yet Sally obviously is not cryogenically frozen, which poses the question, why does she still not age even with the lack of cryogenic freezing? She can not be pickpocketed. When attempted, you would just talk to her.Sally's line, "Cows, we've got cows!" is a reference to a similar line spoken in the movie Twister. When talking to her in the mantience area you can say "What an incredible smell you discovered" which could be a reference to a line in Star wars episode 4. Somah is an African American dressed in a Merc Cruiser Outfit. She is initially unarmed, but after the quest Not of this World she is armed with a Combat Shotgun. She was also abducted from the Capital Wasteland while investigating the distress call from the Alien Crash Site. She is located in the same cell you are in when you wake up after the aliens abduct you. She can't tell you much, but does have a plan to escape. She suggests that the aliens want all the humans alive so all the Lone Wanderer and her need to do is to fake a fight, making it look like someone will die, causing the aliens to rush in and stop the Lone Wanderer and Somah, giving the Lone Wanderer and Somah a chance to escape. After they start spar fighting two aliens will come to the cell door and that's when she becomes a friendly AI again and she and the player beat down the aliens. You first meet her when you wake up in your cell, and she informs you about the aliens, as well as her plan to break out of the cell. After getting to the Engineering Core and finishing Not of This World, she can repair your items (she has an extremely high Repair skill), but insists you pay her for her services. During the final battle, Somah may be knocked to the ground after the ship receives enemy fire. If the player is fast enough, you can loot Somah of all the money paid for repairs. After the final quest, she leaves the ship. It is unknown if you can find her in the Wasteland afterwards, but she says it is unlikely she will ever see the Lone Wanderer again. Somah, like many other characters, has the tendency to hold combat shotgun upside down and at a weird angle from her hands. This seems to have no effect on the game. Toshiro Kago He is equipped with Samurai Armor, Samurai Helmet and a Samurai's Sword. Toshiro cannot speak English. Unlike the Chinese Remnant, the Lone Wanderer can't understand him and the subtitles don't translate what he says. A rough translation of his first few sentences are as follows: "oushi wa nanimono? koko wa dokoda?" What/who are you? Where am I? "sessha no ken! sessha no ken wa dokoda?" My sword! Where is my sword? When asked "Hey, are you okay?" he responds: "Sappari wakaran. koko ga doko nanoka mouse. sessha no ken wa doushita?" The first expââ¬â¹ression can be interpreted "I don't understand [what you are saying] at all." Then he mentioned something along the lines that seven days ago he was swept up by a ferocious current (the tractor beam). Then he returns to the subject of his sword, saying "What happened to my sword?" Notes Toshiro can be found, besides the Engineering Core, in the north-east section of the Living Quarters after the Lone Wanderer completes the second quest, Among the stars. The path is blocked by an alien shielding device that can be destroyed using a frag grenade or other explosive. He is found surrounded by over 7 dead alien bodies (possible victims of the samurai's wrath). You can attack him at any time in the game and kill him and none of the other NPCs will turn hostile. This makes it easy to get his armor and sword. When attacked, he assumes a position of surrender, possibly because he believes he does not belong in this time period or he welcomes death because of a past action.Sometimes he can be found with a missle and missle launcher on his corpse after killing him.In English, his first name translates to "talented; intelligent", and his last name translates to "litter," a type of vehicle carried by both ends with one or two people inside. He was called "Chinaman" by Elliot Tercorien, but after Sally told him that he is from Japan, Elliot then calls him "Orientalman" Bugs After completing the main quest of Mothership Zeta, with Toshiro still alive, it is possible to pickpocket him. In his inventory his Samurai Sword will appear but trying to steal it will result in the game crashing. When asked about the storyline of Mothership Zeta, Jeff Gardiner revealed; "The general plot starts out as an escape attempt until the player figures out what the Aliens are actually up to. There are a number of other abductees for the player to interact with, and from whom they can solicit help." The Disintegrator is an energy rifle of alien origin Alien Robotics are enemies which are going to appear in Mothership Zeta Aliens are also going to be enemies in the obviously.
