How to gain respect and posts
By SmokiestGrunl
Introduction-
We've all seen it before, people joining the forum and spamming to get 200 posts for VIP. By doing this the member gets so much flame towards them that they end up hating the forum and leaving. Well you maybe thinking "What does he know about gaining posts?". Well for one I have the most posts on the forum and second when I first joined the site I spammed, yes you heard right. My first day on the site I spammed the whole Halo 2 mods section. You know what that got me nothing, except for a 2 day ban and a post reset, but that was nearly 2 years ago. So if you are interesting in gaining posts and becoming a respected continue reading.
The Steps-
1. Start making signatures and posting in the GFX Showoff section - Link to section
Reason: Its a good way of getting some easy posts. In a topic that gets a lot of replies you could easily get maybe 5 posts off the 1 topic. If your any good at GFX you may also make it onto the GFX team, which if your wanting a staff position is a good way to start.
Down side: None.
Alternative: Reply to others GFX topics. In saying that don't just post its good. Try to say why you like it, what you don't like, etc.
2. Create Halo 2 mods - Link to section
Reason: This is also another easy way to gain posts. Much the same as the GFX reason and if you make a good mod you can easily become a respected member. Halo 2 modding is also very easy and could be done by everyone, there are many noob proof tutorials in the Halo 2 tutorials section.
Down side: None.
Alternative: Reply to others mods. Don't spam the whole section because you know what will happen when you do that.
3. Create Halo 3 mods - Link to section
Reason: Very much the same as Halo 2 mods and Halo 3 modding is becoming easier every day.
Down side: If you don't create a good mod there is a very high chance that you will be flammed.
Alternative: Same as Halo 2.
4. Reply to help topics - There are 4 help sections, you can tell if its a help section because it will either have help or support in it's title.
Reason: People always need help so its also an easy way to get posts. It helps if you know how to fix it, but you don't need to have the greats brains on the internet. If you can troubleshoot with the user to narrow it down to something that you know then that's always good too.
Down side: Need at least little over basic computing knowledge.
Alternative: None.
5. Post things - Every other section - When following this step post details of what your are posting. Do this with a description or a picture of what ever you are posting. Do not just post "Here is a Halo 3 point generator and here is the download".
Reason: If you have information about anything post it in the other sections. For example if you have a tutorial, post in one of the tutorials sections. If you have a program you want to tell everyone about, post it in the programs section.
Down side: None. If its a well set out post and something that is useful you can't go wrong.
Alternative: None.
6. Post in every topic
Reason: If there is a new post, post in it. If you post something meaningful to the topic and don't just post "good", "great" or "fail", Then you wont get banned.
Down side: Could turn into spam.
Alternative: None.
Tips-
- You can tell if there is a new post by the forum icon being highlighted and not faded.
- Use google to gather information.
- Make suggestions for keeping the forum interesting.
- Use the forums help sections if you don't understand something.
- Send me an email if you need help.
- The number 1 thing don't be scared of posting, if you make a mistake the staff will correct it for you and tell you where you went wrong. The only time that you will get in trouble is if you keep doing the wrong thing.
- Post in the weekly poll that changes every week - link
Conclusion-
Whether your new to forums in general or just this one. Gaining respect and posts can be hard, but it doesn't have to be. If you follow this guide you can easily get 200+ posts in a month, even a week if you stay committed. Good luck and happy posting.
