Hey guys,

Bungie was pretty smart on this one, they released a Halo 3 map for FREE so EVERYBODY will download it. Be aware when downloading the map, a map scanner comes. It will check ONLY your fileshare for modded content. I got a reply on a forum topic that was blacklisted, and I cannot find the link right now, but heres the post


"We know we cannot stop the modders, but by law we have to take action against people breaking the ToS on our game, we don't want to ban most of our community so we made this ban. You can own the modded maps/gametypes/screenshots/films, but if you put them in your fileshare the fileshare scanner that you downloaded with Cold Storage will ban you from fileshares/matchmaking and ONLINE only customs. Most people think your getting banned from customs forever, but thats only online customs to prevent spreading of maps. You only get one chance so don't blow it. For those of you who think you won't download Cold Storage, then you cannot play match-making since every playlist will require it."


So I removed all my modded everything.

hmmm... good warning, i think i already have mods off of my fileshare... but its good to know that bungie is planning on doing this and that they are taking action instead of just trying to ban everyone... although i don't think it will work cuase most of the mods on fileshares are probbobly unused accounts anyway... and couldn't they just put it back after they downloaded it?

well from what it sounds like all we will have to do is put it back on our file share after we download the map.. Unless its a permanent scanner, then we will only be able to share with customs, or accounts that dont have the maps

Someone told me that it also scans your recent games and your library is this true and if so can u get banned for trading in custom?

I seriously think whoever believes this map comes with a "Scanner" is an idiot. The map itself wouldn't come with anything to scan your fileshare. Instead bungie would need to do an actual halo 3 update to include something of the sort.
Unless you actually hear that the map comes with a scanner FROM A BUNGIE EMPLOYEE, don't believe it because it's not true.

Thanks for the warning but if you have mods on your fileshare but havnt downloaded the new map will the scanner be installed already?
