Modders have tried not making forum topics and changing the author of the con file, and this has significantly reduced visibility, but bannings are still being made.
As of now, Bungie is seeming to be but a roadblock, but the lurkers appear to be getting anxious and it's just a matter of time before Bungie moves on the assault. This would most likely not affect some modders out there, but there would still be many at risk.
modded maps and screenshots send up a red flag on BNet when uploaded to the fileshare...but I am making this to offer two alternate and safer methods of map distribution.
1. .:.Viral Customs.:.
This is by far my favorite pick and IMO the most effecient. The fileshare itself is not used, and this method is COMPLETELY undetectable. The fact that only people who join the party will be able to have the map may seem inconvenient, but this is really a great way to filter out the bad and the n00B so that only the good mods will achieve XBL-wide success.
2. .:.Recent Films = Recent Maps.:.
My Tech Specs on how this method works may be a little off, but the point is: It works.
When you save a film in Theater mode and upload it to your fileshare, it uploads the forge con file alongside it but it is part of the film itself and not visible. When a user downloads the modded film on the fileshare (I'd reccomend naming it something like "overkill" or "double headshot") the con file downloads too. Once the user is done watching the saved film, the forge CON will appear in the recent maps list to be downloaded.
As to why this works, I'm just assuming it uses the forge CON file to load up the location of everything at the start of the film to cut back on space.
Note: This does not work with Film Clips!!!!
3. .:.Direct CON Injection/XSATA.:.
Another likely method, however ineffecient due to the fact that not everyone has a XSATA. But this method does have it's advantages:Umm just asking here, if you take a modded forge varient, thats already been signed, put it on the internet, wouldnt people be able to take that, inject into there con SINCE its already been resigned and then we share maps like that?
(-) Modding clans. Uploading the CON file privately on a modding clan website will ensure leak protection.
(-) Banned people/People w/o XBL. For people who have been fileshare/XBL banned, they can still have access to other peoples mods. And so can people with expired XBL accounts/People who can't afford XBL/People on slow internet connections.
~Good luck, and happy modding!
