    COICA

In the United States, a new law proposal called The Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act (COICA) was introduced last week, and there will be a hearing in front of the Judiciary Committee this Thursday.

If passed, this law will allow the government, under the command of the media companies, to censor the internet as they see fit, like China and Iran do, with the difference that the sites they decide to censor will be completely removed form the internet and not just in the US.

Please see the following article from the Huffington Post for more information.

    Stop the Internet Blacklist

And if you are a US citizen, please take the time sign this petition
DemandProgress.org - Petition to Stop the Internet Blacklist!

    Stop the Internet Blacklist!

Just the other day, President Obama urged other countries to stop censoring the Internet. But now the United States Congress is trying to censor the Internet here at home. A new bill being debated this week would have the Attorney General create an Internet blacklist of sites that US Internet providers would be required to block.
This is the kind of heavy-handed censorship you'd expect from a dictatorship, where one man can decide what web sites you're not allowed to visit. But the Senate Judiciary Committee is expected to pass the bill this week -- and Senators say they haven't heard much in the way of objections! That's why we need you to sign our urgent petition to Congress demanding they oppose the Internet blacklist.

PETITION TO THE SENATE: Censoring the Internet is something we'd expect from China or Iran, not the U.S. Senate. You need to stop this Internet blacklist in its tracks and oppose S. 3804.

    1. It hasn't even been voted on yet.
    2. You cannot completely remove a site from the internet with a US law unless it is hosted in the US.

How ironic, you're on an american website.....

This is total bs if congress does pass this law....

Wouldn't they have to physically hack servers to take down websites?

USA, Canada... but yet it seems when people start to protest (at least in Canada), the Riot Police come on out for the party. Freedom of speech my ass.

The point is, its a step in the wrong direction. Soon the government might try to strengthen the law and make all websites pay a tax to stay online in america or something. And if you say the wrong thing on the site, you'll get cut.

V for Vendetta is a good movie.

Freedom of speech does not include destroying cars.

I know some of the newer laws don't care where the server is physically. It matters where the owner/operator is from.
