Epic Games, makers of such manly shooters as Unreal and Gears of War, claim piracy forced them to abandon the PC, and that Facebook based gaming may be the only viable future the platform has.

In an interview with a gaming rag, Epic Games president Mike Capps spoke about the reason the company abandoned the PC:

â??If you walked into [Epic's offices] six years ago, Epic was a PC company. We did one PS2 launch title, and everything else was PC. And now, people are saying â??Why do you hate the PC? Youâ??re a console-only company.â??

We still do PC, we still love the PC, but we already saw the impact of piracy: it killed a lot of great independent developers and completely changed our business model.

And guess what? Itâ??s because the moneyâ??s on console.

Although many will attempt to dismiss this as hyperbole, it may well be supported by the facts â?? traditional US PC gaming shrank from a $1.6 billion market in 2001 to a $538 million market in 2009, whilst console markets grew substantially in the same period.

He goes on to laud the successes of micropayment based Facebook game Farmville, the â??biggest game of all right nowâ?:

â??So, maybe Facebook will save PC gaming, but itâ??s not going to look like Gears of War.â?

God, I hope the "new" facebook games aren't like far :banghead: mville.

I like my Crysis and Command and Conquer. Those will only be good on the PC. RTS games have always sucked for consoles.

Piracy will never go away. That doesn't mean they have to stop making games for certain platforms. Just look at how Piracy has effected the iPod Touch, and now the Xbox.

People will eventually learn how to pirate Facebook games. Its just something that has to be prevented by the developers.

Comparing xbox piracy to PC piracy is like comparing a mongoloid to Stephen Hawking. Everyone and their moms pirate PC games.

True, but all it takes is time. Someone is gonna find a super easy way to pirate xbox games and then everyone will do it.

360 pirating is so easy. You flash it, then download, burn and play. Not too hard?

Yes as long as there are people who pay $100 for someone to set up their 360.

lol, if people cannot follow a tutorial, they probably don't deserve to have their xbox flashed. Just sayin
