I'll get to the point here,
The rep system has been/is being abused, someone will + or - rep someone because they do/don't like them, even if the post was/was not helpful.
So what I propose is that all rep (everyone's, including staff) be approved. Before anyone freaks out, if no one wants to do this job, I will do it. ( I hate seeing "WTF -rep in my topic!!!" in general discussion)
    --
    a couple of suggestions;
When you rep someone, you must give a valid reason with the rep. (which the person doing the job will review and decide if its a good reason)
Possibly a place to give + or - rep on a persons profile page, instead of just on topics. (ex. Person 1 helped Person 2 make a mod over Teamviewer but he/she doesn't want to give rep in a random topic)
    --
I'm not good with website setup, so I can't offer advice on how to set it up.
    Please consider it

I agree that it is abused, but I see no way of fixing that without removing the rep system all together. I also think that a rep button in you profile would be useful and being able to see who gave you rep in the latest reputation thing.

as mentioned above, I believe that moderating every rep that comes in will solve the problem.

I could remove the negative button, or see if its possible to make a centre for all REPs that have to be approved.

Yeah that's a good idea Quinn, I wouldn't mind being part of the Rep Police, I'm already a editor on Urban dictionary so I know which ones to accept or deny. Also they could be in a special group called the Rep Police!

I don't mind, but I doubt there is a center out there now. It may need to be custom made.

If all REP is pulled from one function we can just add a simple 1 or 0 for approved or not. Then grab all 0's to be pulled to the centre where they can be changed to 1s.

Okay, kinda makes sense, but where do we add these 1s or 0s?

Those would just be an SQL value so that when we query them we only pick the ones we want. (Those that are approved, and those that aren't)

    Nothing public you would see.

To those that don't have vip, it matters.

I started looking at the source and all the REP calls are pulled globally from one function. I'm hoping in a quick test that I can alter just one file and it will work in all REP places.

It would be pretty cool, but as said earlier... Would you be able to make it possible for some vip's to be able to help moderate the rep?

If I somehow coded all of that, I'm sure I could add some VIPs to moderate.
