The DVD drives in the 360 have 2 cables from the drive to the mobo. One is SATA, the other is a power cable.

I need a longer power cable. where can I buy a longer one?

Or what type of connection do they use? I could build my own with a bit of cable and 2 connectors, but I don't know what the connectors are called, and so can't purchase them from anywhere.

Any help would be good. Thanks.

Um..If the connector is a sata cable. I assume the power then is a sata molex then. The other end of the game then goes to the mobo.

Is that mobo connection (from drive power to mobo) removable, or soldered in?

I'm talking about the end of the cable, not the connector on the mobo (sorry for bad wording) :)

the cable looks like this: http://www.xbox360pa...cable_p_42.html

I'm trying to either get a bigger one of thise, or get 2 of the ends of the cable and wire it up myself, to make it the exact length I need it.

    May I ask why?

    You could make an 'extension'?

I'll make one when i've got time and test it.

I need a bigger one of those :D

I'm re-casing one of my 360's and putting it inside an old dell case. I'll call it a dell-box 360 :D

It's so I can fit my own fans to it and fix better heatsinks on it.

But I want to position the DVD drive outside the case, along with the hard drive.

I've already got the hard drive sorted, but I needed a longer power cable for the DVD drive (I found a SATA one in the old dell PC).

I don't really want to just cut it because I don't have any spare, incase it goes wrong.

But I'll probably just order a spare one and cut it and re-wire it.

Isnt it the same as the xbox 1's cable? if so it should be easy to get a cheap long cable.

The picture looks the same, don't know about the fine print though.

All of mine are the same size, and I wouldn't even know what to google to try and find a bigger one.
