So, I wa wondering is it possible to just softmod from NOTHING at all, just an xbox and a PC.
(I can FTP, I can burn all CD types, I have transfer ethernet cable, and more)

Shouldn't be a problem for someone as pro as you.

Burn xboxHDM 1.9 to a disc. The problem comes down to how to unlock the drive though to edit the files without having the eeprom or key itself. So probably won't work.

Connect both cables to xbox HD (from xbox) turn on, then unplug ONLY IDE.
Make sure you disable "auto-freeze" or whatever in your BIOS so you don't get a frozen drive. Then it will be unlocked and you can use XboxHDM to move the modded files over.

I have never been able to hotswap successfully with an original Xbox,so can't recommend it.The box unlocks the drive, if you hotswap when the microsoft logo shows on startup it's unlocked. Then you can just do you stuff, and reconnect it to the box and power off to relock it.
So can I simply hotswap the drives and put the softmod files on, and it'll work? What abou tthis locking crap?
You need the eeprom, and without it, your fucked sideways, to put it simply. When the xbox boots up, it unlocks the HDD. If it is unlocked at the time of boot, it no workie
I know its old, but a little extra knowledge never hurt anyone
